How can you take MP3's off an Ipod, and ON to a computer?

So I've got an Ipod full of MP3's that I ripped from my own CD's. I've since had to replace my old computer, and lost the CD that was the source. Itunes appears to block you from simply dragging the songs off the Ipod and putting them into your library in a fascist attempt to block illegal downloading. Clearly since I owned the CD I ripped the MP3's from there's no legal issue with what I'm trying to do.

Is there any way to beat the technology here?

Open up your iPod in explorer. Show all hidden files and folders. Copy the music folders to your hard drive. Import to iTunes. Voila.

Sorry, but where do you find the "show all hidden files and folders" option? I'm using Vista if that matters.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it. Thanks!

Does that actually give them to you with proper names and all? I remember trying this once and all the files were renamed to four-letter random names like HTXG and UBST etc.

The files will have those 4 character names, but they'll still have their ID3 tags so when you import them to iTunes they'll show up properly.

If you're on Windows, Winamp does wonders to iPods. Rhythmbox or AmaroK on Linux and Senuti for Mac OS X - all these programs allow you to rip MP3s straight into your library. And they don't seem to have any problems with those 4 character names.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.
