Too bad. He might have been able to make it better. Danny Devito would have been awful as Mario.

Jesus. I saw this in theaters when I was 10 or 11. Anyways, needless to say, if Kevin Costner would have ended up playing Bowser, I would have shot my self in the scrotum with a staple gun.

I dunno if even Ramis could have fixed that mess. He couldn't have made it worse of course, but all in all I'm glad he doesn't have that blemish on his resume, honestly.

Let's look at Ramis's career as a director:

Caddyshack (1980) - Greatest. Fucking. Movie. EVER.
National Lampoon's (Summer) Vacation (1983) - Completely fucking awesome.
Club Paradise (1986) - Never even heard of it.
Groundhog Day (1993) - Completely fucking awesome.
Stuart Saves His Family (1995) - The only good SNL movie not featuring Wayne and Garth.
Multiplicity (1996) - Watching this movie causes brain cancer.
Analyze This (1999) - Meh.
Bedazzled (200) - Meh.
Analyze That (2002) - Less than meh.
The Ice Harvest (2005) - Fantastic.
Year One (2009) - I would rather gouge my eyes out than see this.

Now, if Ramis had to choose between Groundhog's Day and Super Mario, he certainly made the right choice, as Groundhog's Day is arguably the pinnacle of his directorial career. If he could have done both, I would have liked to have seen him do both.

I like that Groundhog day, despite its unassuming boxart and premise, manages to be one of the exceedingly rare philisophically significant movies.

Goundhog Day is a top 10 movie, definitely. I really enjoyed Bedazzled though, and still do, though I'm not sure why. Probably because of Elizabeth Hurley.

Bedazzled is incredibly predictable and cartoonish. But Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley are both very likeable in pretty much any situation, so it almost works.

I would absolutely agree that he peaked at Groundhog's Day (fucking love that movie), but I recall Analyze This doing fairly well.

I also heard good things about it but never saw it, everything else on that list is trash though.

He didn't direct Stripes. Ghostbusters/Twins/Evolution director Ivan Reitman did. Ramis only co-wrote and starred in it.
