I'm not sure what kind of sick fuck you need to be to buy a game where you rape people. What I am sure of is that they should continue to sell these games and that an executioner should immediately shoot you in the face after you purchase it. This is a great way to weed out a very bad sort of person from our society.

An important victory, but unfortunately, a minor one.
These games will just move to internet distribution. Programmers will find ways to distribute them, and people who want them will find ways to get them. I don't think any rape game has been officially released in the West, but there are still fan-made translation patches.

I downloaded that Rapelay out of curiosity, but I couldn't play it for more than a few minutes before I felt like the world's biggest creep.

Yeah, the Japanese make a lot of those crazy Hentai games. I'm just wondering how this game got so public like that. I know it's absolutely disgusting, but there are surely a bunch of other rape games out there. How exactly does this one stand out?

Fixed. I've played much worse H-games than that.
I don't really care and I take the "let Japan do what they want" stance on this though I can't blame 'em for doing this over the international backlash. Over there, rape is a common sexual fantasy (of men and women alike.) The product was only to be sold over there too.

Long story short: Some idiots sold it on Amazon, it got banned from there. It got on the news. Politicians caught wind of this, they bitched, they "banned" it from American stores even though it wasn't being sold in any place, it got on the news again. All hell broke loose, now this happens.

Oh yeah, that's right. It did get sold on Amazon for a bit before getting banned. The reason I wanted to ask because it apparently is the big issue.

Just as well. I'm all for freedom of speech and all, but these games bother me. Like, a lot. I can't say I'm sad to see ANYONE taking any sort of a stand against them. No. Just...no.

Wow, Japan actually BANNED something? I'm not all to surprised though, how excepting in porn in American society? The Hentia Games will go the way of porn and find refuge in the internet.

Actually, they pretty much banned moments of extreme violence too. They censor it out most of the time these days.
If you don't believe me, look up the Japanese videos for No More Heroes.
Edit: I can't believe I misspelled "censor" like that. Somebody shoot me! XP

Apparently not. Banning this sort of thing is a huge blow towards freedom of speech. They are just fantasies. They may be disturbing to us, but as long as they are just games, they hurt nobody and should be allowed. It's a tired example, but it's not any worse than cheering on the banishment of GTA here if that were to theoretically happen. People that play GTA are not murderers and are just merely playing out a fantasy game where you murder thousands of people and bask in greed and others sorrow.
I don't see how we can be accepting of one and not the other, when if acted out in reality are equally horrible.

Games can have gallons of blood and gore, and most Americans don't care. When it's sexual or sex related, americans freak out. It's the puritanical roots of our country. It was founded by religious zealots so uptight, that England kicked them out. I mean there are still laws in many states (which are not enforced), still in the lawbooks against ways you are allowed to have sex with your spouse in the privacy of your own home. What does that say about historical and traditional views Americans have regarding sex and sexuality?

It's cause Americans don't want foriegn objects up their asses.
Anyways, perhaps this will teach the Japanese that I want a game that let the player have consensual sex with the entire female cast of Tenchi Muyo.

Yeah, I know . I actually started a thread about that exact thing in the NWO a few months back. I still have troubles reconciling my moral stand on this one, but like I said then, I just can't bring myself to say these games are okay. Yes its hypocritical and I accept that, but I just can't bring myself to react to them in any other way. Whether its because I'm jaded against violence or just hypersensitive to this particular issue because I'm a woman I dunno, but I can't forsee my gut-level reaction changing anytime soon.

Do I think the games should have the right to exist? Yes. Do I find them fucking disgusting? Yes.
Censorship is a slippery slope. What one finds everyday and boring another might find incredibly offensive.

I guess...if they weren't mainstream marketed...and if they weren't in regular game stores (I mean, you don't find hardcore porn in your neighborhood bookshop, so I don't see why Rapelay should be lying around the discount bin of EB Games)...I GUESS...I could reluctantly agree to their existence...
The whole thing turns my stomach though, and honestly gives me a little more sympathy for Jack Thompson and his cronies than I'm comfortable with. God fucking dammit I hate when my own arguments bite me in the ass. I fucking, fucking hate it. (Although honestly, this still feels way, way different than a GTA game or the other kinds of violence you can do in games. Its probably really not, and I'm probably just never going to get over my reaction to them...but still. GAH!)

I'm not saying that stores can make the decision not to carry them, as what the store carries is up to the individual who owns the store. I just think that an outright ban would be a bad idea. After all, you can't buy furniture at McDonalds but you can still get it at a furniture store.

I hate to break it to everyone who is high fiving each other, since the ban went into effect. Since, the main game that was the focus of this whole thing, RapeLay, was released over 3 years ago, everyone who wanted to buy the game, already has it.
I am in the camp of: Don't want to play it, find it distasteful and wrong. But, I think people have a right to if they want.
I don't condone it, but at the same time, I will not condemn it.

Well, as I already said, the decision is largely irrelevant. Digital distribution is on the rise, so the manufacturers can bring the game directly to the consumer regardless of whather or not stores carry it. And if the law is worded so that Japanese websites can't sell the games, then companies will just move their websites to servers located in some country where laws don't actually exist. Like say, Thailand.
On top of that, these games are heavily pirated anyway. Unsuprisingly, most people don't want Rapelay showing up on their credit history.
