This reminds me: I never got people who watched the Japanese version of anime. What's the use of it if you can't understand shit? I mean, unless the storyline has been changed.

They just want to sound elitist. I don't care what language is in as long as their is some way for me to tell what is going on. People are going to do stuff like that as long as it gives them a chance to make themselves feel like they're part of some exclusive club.

Yeah, I guess I always knew that. Feel free to change "I never got" to "Fuck" when reading.

And sometimes the people who dub japanese shows also butcher it and cut several things. but that isn't really the case so much these days.

That's true. Some of the older shows have key elements in the story that are either changed or removed. Nowadays though the translations are pretty spot on.

At times you do get elements of the story that normally is lost in dubs. Sometimes the japanese voice actors add more emotion to the drama too, adding to the entertainment value. It's also some bull about being more cultural in there, which is interesting at times. I've heard (rather seen) that most elitist just like the sound of the japanese voices and feels like they are experience the full anime experience and any other form is blasphemy. I enjoy anime but those people piss me off when they go all elitist for stupid reasons.
To be honest, i'll watch anime either way, while I have found it is cooler to watch the subs however i do prefer dubs to avoid reading subtitles.

I'm in the same boat. I tend to watch the dubs with the subtitles just because I like having both (I also like to keep captions on my TV simply because I like to be able to turn up my game boy and still catch bits and pieces of what is going on).

Funnily enough, those two Japanese dubs of Animaniacs and TTA up there sound and look professionally done: It's like they got the EXACT SAME voice actors from the English version and taught 'em Japanese. Well, almost.
I'm a sub guy a lot, though I take my dubs here and there (especially if they're like the dubs of most classic Gundam shows, Cowboy Bebop, and Fullmetal Alchemist). That's because yeah, most anime/game dubs sound like shit, either miscast (horribly) or the emotion is just... not there.

Well, anime is produced and made with the Japanese language in mind, so it's the natural language for the show. So naturally you lose a bit of the feel and ambiance with an English dub I feel, just like seeing Ghostbusters dubbed into Japanese wouldn't be quite as good as the original English. I try to watch all anime in the native Japanese (with subs of course) because it keeps that little something that I feel is lost with a dub.

Hey Bomberman, I think Yakko's Japanese voice sounds like the same guy who does that freak Captain Kurotsuchi Mayuri in Bleach (black and white face with a funny hat). What do you think?
As for your 2nd poiny, I have to say that the dub of Gundam Wing is decent for the most part, except the dubbed portrayal of Heero. In the original language, he did show emotion it was just muted; the guy who handled his English voice made him come off like a damn android.

I know it's Japanese, but I still think it sounds Korean...

I just started watching my Gundam Wing DVDs after getting them back from a friend. Zechs sounds like an evil motherfucker. On a side note, it looks damn good upscaled on my HDTV.

Of course Japanese doesn't make anything better.
I'm not a fan of any dub into any language that is not the original language.
