http://old-wizard.com/top-100-video-games
Currently working my way through the list, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. I gave up on that part around #84, where they discuss Batman for the NES:
"In terms of the storyline, Batman follows the chronology of the Batman movie exactly, level for level …which is fine."
I tried and tried to find some way they're attempting to be ironic or joking, but I can't. I now officially fear for my sanity as I plow through the rest of this...

The game in first will obviously be one of the following:
A) Super Mario Bros.
B) Super Mario Bros. 3
C) Final Fantasy VII
or D) Legend of Zelda: OoT

Actually, now. I skipped ahead just out of curiosity, and the top 5 are:
*erm, spoilers if you really want to be surprised I guess*
5. FF VI
4. Chrono Trigger
3. Starcraft (?!)
2. SMB 3
1. Zelda: LTP
Not horrible imho, actually. Except for Starcraft. I mean I love the game, but I wouldn't put it alongside Chrono Trigger and Zelda.

Actually, I wouldn't dare put any JRPG or Zelda on the same plane as Starcraft. But that's me.

Okay, that does it:
"While Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask were good games, its not until the release of Twilight Princess for the Gamecube and Nintendo Wii that there is a truly great Zelda game set in in three dimensional space."

I have quite a few friends who are Zelda fans and would disagree with that, they all found it too easy and more reliant on graphics to sell. One's favorite is Majora, the other's favorite is Wind Waker.

Its lack of innovation is what keeps it at number six on our list, but as the old saying goes, if ain’t broke, don’t fix it. |

To this day I don't know what makes Chrono Trigger or Zelda so special.

Only to find that my base was leveled and I need to start again.
boss’s
F it, it took me an hour to figure this out (Bubble Bobble? Really?)
Worst…Game…Ever
39. Super Punch Out! --- All these qualities combined to make Super Punch Out a slightly more enjoyable game than the original, and if we creating our top 100 list with this first and foremost in mind (enjoyment factor), than Super Punch Out must edge out the original, even if the original firstly brought in the great idea.
26. Mike Tyson’s Punch Out! (NES)
This was a (GASP) Disney game!!!!!!!!!!
When going into a video game nerds home,
What the hell is Pac-man?
They were definitely my favorite s.
I’ve always been a huge fan of the borg or mindless species with genius overlords the zerg were perfect.
4. Chrono Trigger (SNES) --- The theme music for 600.AD is perhaps the most recognized RPG theme in RPG history.

Complete agreement right there. How can someone name Paperboy as one of the worst games?

I'm actually surprised that Old-Wizard put a few Sega titles in that list, including a Sonic title.
I love Sega, but I thought that guy hated Sega a lot.

One of the guys that admins Old-Wizard used to frequent another forum I visit, and spam links to his lists all over the place.
I learned a long time ago that Old-Wizard is a bullshit.

It's actually not as bad a list as you guys are making it out to be, I mean sure the order definitely could use some rearranging but he does include a good chunk of the essentials.
Just for the record, I agree with his Super Punch-out ranking, it is a good game......there I said it.

I hate it, I fucking hate it. WoW nearly destroyed my life.
Still... the game has 11.5 million subscribers. From the way they define it, it seems legit: http://www.blizzard.com/us/press/081121.html They don't bother to count people who quit the game.
Ratings wise, the game maintains ratings above 90% and doesn't seem to be going away.
Like I said, I hate it and will never play it again, but I'm not sure any game has ever been as big or as played.

Yeah, but the point I was making was that he says Super Punch Out is better than the orginal, and then puts the original above it on the list.

11.5 million users is nothing. SMB1, SMB3, and Wii Sports beat that out by huge margins in terms of how many people have played them. In terms of average gameplay hours per user though, I doubt anything beats WoW. That's not necessarily an accomplishment though. I like my games to have a beginning, middle, and an end. WoW doesn't.

11.5 active players Syd. It is a count of how many people play the game right now. I am sure that they are much higher if you count people who ever played the game. I'm guessing the number is much larger.
Also, no one will ever agree to what game is best, so which metrics should be used to measure "best"?

There are at least four categories that should be used to determine a game's "bestness":
1. Impact
2. Innovation
3. Aesthetics
4. Lasting Appeal
The "lasting appeal" requirement more or less disqualifies online games, because online games only exist as long as they are profitable enough to keep the servers running and pay the people involved.
World of Warcraft is also near impossible to evaluate. On what ground do we evaluate WoW? The WoW that is played now is not the same WoW that people played five years ago. There have been an array of patches, expansions, and graphics updates. If WoW continues to exist into the future, it will only do so by endlessly expanding and updating. And thus, evaluating it in any meaningful way becomes impossible. Super Mario Bros is the same game it was in 1985; WoW is not the same game it was in 2004, or even in 2007. To attempt to rank in on a best game list, or to even classify it as a game, is an insult to games. Call WoW a lifestyle. Call it virtual reality. Call it alternate reality. But don't ever rank it as a game.

I don't think it's the list's order that's turned everyone off to it, but the fact that the people making the list have the intelligence of a coffee table.
