Alright, I'm going to inject some cheese/seriousness into the forum by pointing out that this is Memorial Day weekend (obviously). In light of that, I thought I'd post a couple very nice tributes to our fallen soldiers (one video, one image), since that is what the day is about.
Technically its not observed until Monday of course, but I thought I'd throw out the info that 3pm on Memorial Day is what's called the National Moment of Remembrance. If you feel so inclined, it is appropriate that you stop what you're doing at 3pm and take that moment to reflect on and appreciate those who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Its also traditional to listen to "Taps," during that time, but of course not everyone can do that. If you would like to though, and are in a place where you can play an audio file, here's a rather beautiful recording of the piece:
Enjoy the day off, go to the beach, have a barbecue, have a great time. But don't forget one of the major reasons we have that kind of freedom.

Given my grandfather and father are both war veterans, and the fact that my entire career revolves around the military, it would be wrong for me to not give a proper tribute. The only thing I can think to post is thank you.
Thanks to all the vets in advance, I'll be working so you guys go do something fun!

Here in the South, we actually have a non-federal holiday right before Memorial Day.
From wiki: The southern U.S. celebrates Decoration Day (the former name for the holiday) as a day to decorate the graves of all family members, and it is not reserved for those who served in the military. The region observes Decoration Day on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Jason Isbell of the rock band Drive-By Truckers chronicled such an event in his epic ballad "Decoration Day", which is also the title cut for their fifth album.

I didn't realize it was Memorial Day. We had a long weekend last weekend. But in honor of all my Canadian and American friends who are currently serving their country, and for all those we've lost in the past, I've posted 'Morning Song', sort of a personal version of Taps I wrote long ago, on my MySpace for all to hear.
My great grandfather fought in WWII and my great uncle I believe, fought in WWI and was killed in action after the war had ended but communication didn't get down to all of the frontlines for a day or two or more and he died in that time span.
I hope the History channel is doing something for the occasion, I love the histories of these world conflicts and hearing from the guys who faught. My neighbor faught in WWII, think he was involved with bomber's, he's probably the best neighbor you could ever ask for, him and his wife, and I've always wanted to talk to him about WWII but have always been afraid to ask, a lot of veterans don't like talking about it and as much as I would like to ask about it, it's not fair for me to bring back bad memories.

My grandfather was killed in action in Vietnam and had the misfortune of having his name misspelled on the Vietnam Wall. It's supposed to be "Philip', not "Phillip." For Memorial Day, we're visiting my grandmother, and hopefully have a barbecue. Much respect will be given to all veterans an currently enlisted men and women, God bless.

You know, I think they can fix things on the Wall; have you ever looked into that? I know they can do things like change a person's status from MIA to KIA etc, so I'm sure there's some way to correct the spelling of a name.

Memorial Day 2006 was the best weekend of my life. I went to New York and shacked up with this gorgeous high school Asian cheerleader girl in a hotel for a glorious weekend. The second day we had to go to the city because she had to take driving lessons, which her dad had to pick her up from. So I escorted her to the city, and broke the fuck out before her Dad could know what was going on.
So I here I was, in New York City....with a fistful of dollars...and baby! YOU BETTER BELIEVE!. (Identify that reference, win one internet).
I actually remember walking along on some street I didn't know, looking up and seeing the tippy top of the Chrysler Building. So after wandering around the city for 45 minutes, I decide to go the Virgin Megastore. For some reason, I thought that was an exclusive New York landmark, as I remember hearing on MTV that it was the biggest record store in the country. How could I not go there? I went there, got Megadeth's Killing Is My Business and Dio's Last in Line (after a very strenuous decision making process mind you), and by that time, my sweet asian princess's driving lessons were done. I met back up with her, we ate lunch, went back to the hotel and...yea.
As a friend from another board put it "Nothing says remembering our troops like banging an asian!"

Fixed.
I don't know why this story feels out of place.

The reference is to KISS', ie. Ace Frehley's, 'New York Groove'.
