I had a Windows 98 computer back before I actually knew how to use a computer (or what types of things to avoid online), and I had just learned about emulation. I had read about the old arcade game Berserk, and wanted to play it. I downloaded a version of the game from an unknown source, and started it. First of all, the game sucked because while I was playing it, my computer was having the shit raped out of it by a Trojan Horse virus. It was one of those programs that places fake antivirus programs on your computer that you can't get rid of. Long story short, whatever I tried didn't work, so I had to have my mom wipe the hard drive and reload the OS. And we all lived happily ever after (after we installed Norton Antivirus).
The floor's open. . .

I don't think I've ever had a hardcore virus, but my computer at work got some kind of spyware on it that would give me pop-ups for adults websites. (Even though I never visit those types of websites at work......nothing even approaching that level.)
It sucked because our office is very open, so if I wasn't at my desk to click it away, it would sit on my screen for everyone to see. After a few times I got smart and turned the monitor off whenever I was going to be away for more than a few minutes.

My last computer got pretty fucked up somehow. Whenever I'd reboot, all my fonts would be deleted except for Wingdings, making it impossible to do anything. I had to memorize where in my directory tree the FONTS system folder was and manually reinstall all my fonts everytime I rebooted. Eventually I got sick of doing this and I bought a new computer. At the time, the fucked computer was 5 years old, so it was about time to replace it anyway.

My computer is kinda fucked right now. It'll spontaneously reboot, and occasionally give the blue screen of death. I'd reformat, but I'm leary of hard-saving game data only to not have it be recognized when I reinstall the software.

Man, I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but in retrospect that's a pretty hilarious virus.

When I was going to Miami, one of those worms wind up invading our entire school and everyone that didn't have the most recent version of Windows XP (or just an older version of Windows like 98 or ME) was fucked. It was the virus that made your computer reboot itself after like 10 minutes the first time, then like 5, then just shorter and shorter intervals. Problem was, the windows update was pretty big and, you know, I had about 30 seconds to download it and install it before my computer rebooted. My roommate finally was able to burn it onto a CD for me, but it was a good couple hours of my life lost to rebooting.

I'm on my laptop's second hard drive. My first hard drive got corrupted and had to be replaced after I loaded my friend's copy of Diablo 2. After my hard drive was corrupted he told me that "He accidentally gave me the corrupted copy". Turns out his uncle had the same problem on an older computer, and had used Scan Disk to fix the corrupted sectors, but my computer was an XP, so that means that the Scan Disk utility had been eliminated in favor of a different program that wasn't able to fix the problem.
At least I thought that was what happened. Actually, the computer stopped working over a week later, and before I even installed the program that hard drive was really fucked up. My new hard drive has a better version of XP, and it's made by a different manufacturer, so it's infinetly better.
My theory is that my computer got a virus while I was playing Diablo online. My friend encouraged me to turn off my antivirus program so I could install the program, and in my haste to enjoy the game, I forgot to turn it back on. I assume that I got some trojan horse that was time-released, and untraceable. I had originally thought that the disk corrupted my system, as I said above, but then I did some research and found no record of corrupted Diablo 2 discs being made.
Has anyone had this problem with Diablo 2 before?

When my family first got the internet back in the day I was totally oblivious to all the crazy virus shit going on in the nets. I was unfortunate enough to download "The Junky Boot" Virus. Pretty much totally fucking fried the shit out of our comp. Just ended up getting a new one. I'm sure I got it from some lame ass porn or from downloading stupid ass .WAV files because thats pretty much what I thought the internet was about when I was 14.

You bought a new computer? You couldn't just format your harddrive, or if worse came to worse just get a new harddrive without replacing everythign?
