Oh dear god, its like something out of a nightmare.
Clearly, its engineers are completely unfamiliar with all science fiction conventions. That thing is a robot revolution waiting to happen.

I guess it's purpose is to move gear around in terrain that soldiers would have a hard time in, but I can just see them packing a minigun on it or something. That high pitched buzzing mosquito noise is creepy.
Oh hey this is kinda scary too, check out the Folster-Miller TALON.
Personally I'm waiting for a Mech I can stomp around in like one of these.
(not fully functional, I think the arms work but the rest is a shell)
*Edit, Im my excitement and sleep depreivation I misunderstood the comments on the website that linked this image, all this is is just a photchop hosted at a battletech website, there's no real giant mech statue in anyone's yard.
Except for the Timber Wolf Tree House.
Oh yeah, they have a robot that can play tennis with people too.
This is the best out of all of them, even though it's the most unbelievable.
I like battlemechs (I spent many an hour playing Mechwarrior 2 as a little one), but I prefer more the Japanese Super Robot (Mazinger Z, Voltron, The Big O, etc.) and Real Robot (Mobile Suits/Gundams, Eva, Macross (robotech), etc.)
Thats just creepy, I would not want one of those. It reminds me of headless zombie dogs for some reason...

I'm waiting for a youtube clip of some drunken solider riding one around while shouting YEE HAW and waving a cowboy hat.

I prefer the western mechs more, they tend to be more about substance, and less about style. A large mech equipped with dual mini-guns will generally win more battles than a gundam with a z-saber.

I guess style is important to me then. From what I've seen, Battlemechs for the most part have the same recurring, lackluster, chicken-style, non-standardized designs (which makes interchangable parts impossible), while the shows I mentioned have a shitload of designs. However, Battletech's world and atmosphere more than makes up for the robots.
Plus, a Mobile Suit's beam saber/sword is only a close range weapon. Mobile Suits can be armed with warship-class beam guns and beam rifles, mega particle cannons, missile pods, fucking FUNNELS, the works. And all without being slow and basically having no more of an advantage than a normal tank on a battlefield.
God, I wish I can embed youtubes right now to show examples.
According to Wikipedia: "As part of the 30th Anniversary of the Gundam series, Mitsubishi officially announced a project on 11 March, 2009 called Real-G planning to build a 1/1 real size scale Gundam statue in Japan."
