So, some of you guys may have seen a clip of this on YouTube. In fact, UltimateFierce posted it in the Foreign Rip-Offs thread a while back. It is KORKUSUZ... the TURKISH RAMBO.
Well, I was such a fan that I now own it. And I don't mean "own a DVD of it." I mean I own the rights to it.
Am I crazy? Hell yes. But expect to see this gem given a very special Dark Maze DVD treatment in the not-too-distant future.

That is amazing my friend. You should green light a sequel and let us have a role in it.

That is insanely awesome.
Do we even want to know how much the rights cost for that?
Are you going to start sending out offical Dark Maze Studios "Cease and Desist" letter to people who post it up on youtube? (Which, I think would be funny.)

So, how many camels did you have to trade to get the rights?

Char, I think they'd prefer horses, not camels.
Nah, I have no problem with stuff on YouTube, unless they put up the whole movie. People selling bootlegs, though, might be a different matter.
And yeah, it's totally the bazooka rounds that sold me. Soooo good.

I'm totally excited, it's gonna be great. Meanwhile, I've got an original Korkusuz poster in my living room now.

So how do you go about purchasing a movie?

It's pretty straightforward. You talk to the owner and see if they're willing to sell the rights, and then negotiate the terms. The trick was actually getting ahold of a producer in Turkey, which I was able to do with the help of a really swell guy in Greece who distributes similar Turkish flicks.
In Hollywood I'm sure it involves a lot more lawyers (and money!), but this wasn't bad at all. Really great people.

What is all included in "the rights" for us non movie producing people. Like can you use footage from the movie, would you have to pay the actors in the film for using it or was that covered in the acquistion of the movie. I don't have a very keen grasp on movie law.

Specific rights vary depending on the deal. But no, you don't pay the actors for use of the film because you're buying a whole, not a collection of pieces.
Otherwise it'd be like buying a combo meal at McDonalds, then paying additionally a la carte for each fry you eat. The analogy isn't perfect, but you get the idea.

So does that mean you'll have to make it Region 1 only when you release it on DVD?

What i want to know is when can we expect the Turkish "Rampage" Rambo inevitable video game? It would easily mirror the movie, what with nobody's body turning to gibs and the rocket rounds randomly spawning near the player.
If you did have a chance to make the game, what system would you have it on?

The DVD will feature a new English dub, and if I was a programmer I'd totally make a Turkish Rambo video game. Couldn't be worse than the Rambo NES game. It'd probably for the Wii, for better point-and-shoot action.
