I've picked up many classic systems over the past few months, and thus have bought many new games. Some of these are old standbys, like Sonic 2 on the Genesis or Super Mario World on the SNES. However, I've also picked up many games that I hadn't heard of before, but are damn good. For example:

Fighters Megamix: Everyone says that Virtua Fighter II is the best fighter on the Saturn, but Fighters Megamix combines VFII with Fighting Vipers, another AM2 release that didn't get as much recognition. The games mesh very well, and Fighters Megamix ends up being one of the most rewarding games on the Saturn.

Robocop VS The Terminator: I picked this one up on recommendation from a friend, and I was surprised at how good it was. This game blows any other Robocop or Terminator game out of the water. The controls may seem clunky at first, but the developers took this into account and placed health pickups in many spots across the level. The difficulty curve is a bit steep, but the game is fun enough that the frustration factor of later levels doesn't get in the way.

Robotron 64: This game takes the gameplay of the original Robotron, adds powerups and a kicking breakbeat techno soundtrack. If you have a Nintendo 64, then this game is a great buy (and a cheap one, too).

BattleTanx Global Assault: Some people point to Army Men as 3DO's best N64 game, but BattleTanx GA really stands out as a great co-op and multiplayer tank game. I'd say the multiplayer in this is actually more enjoyable than GoldenEye (yeah, I went there), and the campaign is good to boot. This was one of my favorite games back when I had my original N64, and I knew that I'd have to hunt it down again.

Anyone else have any games that you feel flew under the radar, or just have an undeserved bad rap?

Good call with Robotron 64, that console had alot of "gems" on it.

It was said on another thread here, but Tetrisphere on the N64 was a great new innovation on the Tetris style of gameplay. Plus, the bot characters are awesome.

Damn, I forgot about Robotron 64, I used to stay up all night playing that with my Dad. As for underappreciated games, Gotcha Force is a pretty fun game that I don't think many people have heard of. Also, Cubivore.

I still play Kirby's Dream Course on SNES, but I don't think I've ever met anyone else that's actually played it. I love that game.

Yes, the moon, the part where you had to race the dump truck on the moon sticks with me.

Like I was saying, the 64 might house the greatest number of under appreciated games.

I actually have a copy of Gotcha Force, and it is indeed awesome.

Blast Corps was actually the first game that I ever owned. Man, do I need to pick up a copy of that again. The music is bitchin'.

Underappreciated where? This got much more hype than the far-better original.

Fuck yeah! I was so disappointed when Total Destruction came out. That game is a pile of shit and ruined all my childhood memories.

For N64:

Winback - Was a really fun multiplayer game, that everyone forget about when Perfect Dark came out.

Road Rash 64 - Was a great version of the Genesis classic series.

SimAnt. Almost no one I know has played it, and yet it was so very, very awesome.

Yes! I used to play that in middle school. I used to love taking over the spider and just going on a rampage. We also had simlife or something to that effect. You could create your own breed of animal and whenever they reproduced you'd hear a sound clip of a male or female saying "oooh-la-la!" in the most sensual way possible.

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy

An adventure thriller.

This is how video games should be made.

Ah memories. It's been ages since I've played it.

I can't wait to pick some of these up, especially the 64 titles.

I've been trying to help Dra-C get Klonoa working on his PSP, but so far it always crashes after the first level.
