I laughed once and then realized that this is a very sad topic. Every laugh is actually a scream of reality hitting someone who realized that they are spending money that they don't have.

Gah, that is almost painful to watch, isn't it? That kinda straddles the border between hilarious topical humor, and a poignant and apt commentary on the state of our society.

On a less depressing note, Steve Martin is awesome and I love him. Very Happy

I liked that skit, especially at the time it was on. I have always lived in within my means my entire life and have been very happy. I think what is sad about it now it is the fact that many people were essentially conned into thinking they could afford houses they couldn't, and banks were more than happy to lend the money. Being financially responsible is not a family trait though. I won't go into further detail, but there are members of my family that would benefit from taking that skit to heart.

The way that homes are purchased makes this topic impossible for anyone who is middle or lower class.

Homes are simply too expensive to buy without going into debt.

I have never been in debt my entire life and I am very far out of it right now, but as soon as I buy that property I will become a slave to the system for 30 years.

What alternative is there?

I was never to cozy to the idea of being tied down with property, what if I get a job out of state and have to move all over again? Even though it's probably a waste of my hard earned money I much prefer renting and being able to toss the furniture throw my clothes and shit in the truck and travel on down the road at the drop of a hat.

When you rent, you are constantly giving your money to someone else.

When you buy, the money is going towards the home.

Yes, either way you are giving money away, but when you go to sell the home you own, you get money back.

Agreed. I'm looking for property at the moment myself. Not to buy right away, I can't afford it yet, but I do want land. Even if all I have to live on is a little trailer at first, I want a decent sized plot of land far enough away from things that I can be at peace, see the stars, and hear nothing but animals and wind. Then I can work on building a house to my own specifications down the road.

That's the theory anyway. May not happen exactly as I picture, but...what in life ever does?

Hey guys, I'm writing this on my new military grade laptop! It was only 23,000$$$!!! Good deal, Huh? Yeah. Now I only owe my dog, sister, the bank, the dude at the bar, and the guy with the shopping cart a total of 57,098,685$.

No, Seriously. It is a very common happening. You would be surprised at how many people would be leaning over their keyboards and going "oh, no! really?" during the whole clip.

I think school is overrated. I just Don't go.

So Hawk, does the military really have laptops like the ones that last guy described?
