Why the curious omission of TMNT 3, when they go back to Sengoku Jidai-era Japan?

Tough call.

TMNT was darker, grittier, and had an interesting story involving New York gangs and family issues. Not to mention Casey Jones at his best. But at times it seems to take itself too seriously.

TMNT2 was more of a comic book action adventure. There's some strong mythology building in the film and Super Shredder is still a favorite villain of mine (despite having about a minute and a half of screen time). Vanilla Ice and some extra wackiness take it down a peg.

TMNT3 I love, love, love, love the costumes and sets in this film. I love the subplot involving the English and Japanese. "The Last Samurai" is the only other film to do that historical event justice, and I found TMNT3 much better (granted, they took place in two different years, it was the same idea). Casey Jones was back, but not as good as in the first TMNT, but his past self did show Elias' acting range. There's an odd "Backdraft" reference in the film which I still find out of place. And the film just isn't that funny and the last fifteen minutes are beyond cheesy.

They each have their moments. Smile

EDIT: I have to clear this up with someone: NOT THE TURTLE COSTUMES IN III. That should go without saying.

The first one. Two might have won if it had Bebop and Rocksteady instead of two jabroni mutants.

Actually, probably not. Everything about the first one was better. It even had a better rap:

T-U-R-T-L-E
Power!
T-U-R-T-L-E
Power!
T-U-R-T-L-E
Power!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

On the half shell, they're the heroes four
In this day and age who could ask for more
The crime wave is high, with muggings mysterious
All police and detectives are furious
Cuz they can't find the source of this lethally evil force
This is serious, so give me a quarter
I was a witness, get me a reporter
Call April O'Neal in on this case
And you better hurry up, there's no time to waste
We need help, like quick, on the double
Have pity on the city, man it's in trouble
We need heroes like the Lone Ranger
With Tonto came pronto when there was danger
They didn't say we'd be there in half an hour
Cuz they displayed... Turtle Power!

Yeah... I could keep going.

not NEARLY as fun to sing that as opposed to the TMNT Turtles in time/coming out of their shells song!

Fun fact. For a while, (couple'a' years) my brother and I lived less than a quarter mile from where they filmed some of the battle scenes in #3

I think I'm gonna go with the first one. Even so, the second one was tons of fun. And probably the coolest thing Vanilla Ice ever did.

I'll defend it because it was better than I remember last I saw it and it makes Ken Watanabe look like wannabe-a-ninja... That didn't make sense. Shocked
But 1 and 2 are easily better.

I actually never saw III. By the time it came out, I had outgrown TMNT.

Well, I enjoy the Turtles again now. Just at that point in my life, I had stopped caring about them.

I liked the first one better, mainly because of how serious it was.

I liked I, because Joan Hoag (Judith Hoag's mother) came to speak in my 9th grade English class.
