Well, I've bitched about it enough in real life, and god knows I've whined about it on IRC, so I guess it's time to bring this to the forums.
Animaniacs, as I'm sure you all know, was an amazing cartoon, the second (After Tiny Toon Adventures) made by Warner, produced by Speilberg, and animated by the standard studios of the days, plus FUCKING STARTOONS(!!!), it was on for ninety-nine episodes. In fairly recent years, Warner home video has been releasing these on DVD. Going along with their whole "Fuck the silver age" mentality, they don't get the respect they deserve, special features are very rare and often non-existant, and while the picture quality is fine, it's not much better than what you'd get on TV. Now, before I go further, let me expand on that a little
Warner loves the golden age cartoons, everyone does, Bugs Bunny is their fucking mascott, and as such, when the Looney Tunes Gold Collections came out on DVD, they definitely got a nice release, the sound was high quality, the picture was fixed up to it's original standards (Well, later on... if you know what I'm talking about, great, I'm not getting into it, though), and the special features were top notch. If you pop on the Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show after watching that, you'll be appalled at how horrible the image looks. But try that DVD then TV switch with Animaniacs or Tiny Toons, and you'll barely notice the difference... whatever, I'm ranting.
Anyway, we've been getting these horrifically lackluster releases, but hey, these shows were intended to be syndicated, they're not supposed to be high quality wonders, at least we're getting all the episodes on DVD, right? Well... wrong. So far Tiny Toons and Freakazoid's releases have been going fine, and all of Pinky and the Brain has been released, however, the first of the silver age series Warner started releasing isn't getting as good a treatment. They released volumes one through three fine, but they've still got another one to go. Around the time that Tiny Toons Vol. 1 was announced, it also came out that Warner has no plans to release Vol. 4 of Animaniacs.
Let me repeat that, but this time, with extensive capitalization, y'know, for emphasis.
WARNER HAS NO PLANS TO RELEASE VOL. 4 OF ANIMANIACS
Yeah... old news, but still, what the fucking hell, Warner?
