*nods* yeah. I know its disgusting, but its one of those things that's so ingrained in their culture (at least for some of the people), and so abhorrent in ours, that neither side is going to do a very good job of understanding the other.
That said, I'm American, I think its horrible, and I'm glad she got herself out of it. Ugh.

That's what they believe is the right thing to do. It's all about the culture. Muslims are usually more concerned with business than the well-being of their children, thus letting their young children marry with far older (and wealthier) people. And I say this without the intent of being offensive to the Islamic culture.

Usually, men have a lot of leniency is getting divorces over there. They just have to say "I divorce you" three times to their spouses. It was even done via text message a few weeks ago by someone in Iraq to his wife in Saudi Arabia:
