So far we've had:
Aerosmith
Metallica
Who should be next? Or rather, who do you think will be next? In order for a band to get their own GH game, they need to have instant name recognition and a large catalog of hits, fan favorites, and hidden gems to draw from.
One of my friends suggested Iron Maiden. That would be fantastic, but I don't see it happening. Maiden has a hardcore fanbase, but they lack the mainstream appeal of Aerosmith and Metallica. My guess is KISS. They meet all three requirements and since KISS has always been about showmanship, the programmers could have a lot of fun with the visuals. My second guess is a little weird: Ozzy Osbourne. While a game called Guitar Hero: Ozzy Osbourne kinda defies logic, Ozzy has always worked with great guitar players, and a game chronicling his career from Sabbath to Rhodes to Jake E. Lee to Zakk Wylde would be pretty awesome.

I would bet my money on one of the following:
Black Sabbath - A lot of hits, large focus on guitar. Ozzy's music is really popular but I wouldn't call it a wide spread audience. There are a lot of people who wouldn't get into this.
Van Halen - A lot of hits, large focus on guitar. I would bet a lot of money on this one. There is a lot of great guitar. I haven't really ever heard anyone say that they dislike Van Halen. I think lots of people would be into this.
Foo Fighters - A lot of hits, medium focus on guitar. This would be the underdog out of my picks, but I think they have enough famous songs that they could fill up those tracks. They constantly sell out stadiums and the music is a lot of fun. They are still current, so the sales potential would hit people who liked them in the 90's, 2000's and perhaps beyond. I think this has a lot of potential, and I think that Dave Grohl would be into this.
Guns N' Roses - A lot of hits, large focus on guitar. They have the music for it. A lot of the music has swears in it, so I'm not sure how that would fly. It would be amazing to have access to some of those epic songs. Axl would be the biggest problem here. He could be a douche about the whole thing. Still, with the rest of the band not currently making any money due to Velvet Revolver's lack of motion... they might want to do this.

Axl is furious with the Guitar Hero people, and I think he might be suing them. If you see a GN'R game, it will be Rock Band. Axl is angry because he signed off on the inclusion of "Welcome to the Jungle" in GH3, and then Slash was used heavily in both the game and its promotion. The fact that game heavily associated the song with a muscian who is no longer in the band and implied a current relationship between Slash and Gun N' Roses at a time when Axl was working towards releasing a new album with different musicians pissed him off. That's why "Shackler's Revenge" was in Rock Band 2. If you ever see a GN'R game, it will be done by Rock Band.
I don't see Foo Fighters happening. Not old enough, not big enough, not enough of a library. I don't see a Nirvana game happening because the library isn't big enough and a lot of the best songs have already appeared in games or as DLC.
Van Halen is an EXCELLENT choice. Eddie is currently hating on Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony though, so a VH game might be difficult. The GH people like to make these games career-spanning, and if Eddie refuses to let them put Hagar in it, they'd be skipping a large, important part of VH history.
I don't see a straight Black Sabbath game happening. I picked Ozzy because his hits and career have far eclipsed those of Black Sabbath. A game focusing on Ozzy's career would allow them to include a bunch of classic Sabbath as well as solo Ozzy stuff. A lot of the solo Ozzy stuff has better solos, too.
Red Hot Chili Peppers I could see happening. Been around forever, still very popular.
U2 I could see happening too, but I hate them, so I hope not.

I personally think that Foreigner would be a pretty good choice if they could get them to do something like this. Just saying Juke Box Hero, kind of fits the bill.
Maybe some Primus, John the Fisherman was good, but what about Wynona's Big Brown Beaver and maybe Jerry Was a Racecar Driver.
Last one I could think off would be rush, progressive hippish rock, good solos and lots of songs to choose from.

In my mind, I always kinda group Rockband & Guitar Hero. I guess that is what happens when you don't own either.

Well, there isn't currently a Rock Band game based around a single band. There's Rock Band and Rock Band 2, and that's it. They are working on a Beatles game, but it probably won't have the Rock Band label on it.
Oh, speaking of which: The Rolling Stones. The font from which all hard rock sprang forth.

Sort of which what they did with ACDC then? Just throw it out there give it a high budget advertising scheme then the game is under sold?

AC/DC Live is a track pack, not an actual game. If you have a 360 or PS3, you can import it into Rock Band or Rock Band 2. Unlike most track packs, which are available as DLC, AC/DC Live is a Wal*Mart exclusive and must be physically purchased there.

I'll take your word for it. I just found it funny that they put so much effort in advertising an expansion pack when from my local wal-marts, they really didn't sell any. Granted, the people there are bitter and don't really care, but still...

Not so much the GH games, I was refering to the ACDC Rock Band which I guess is an expansion... but GH Aerosmith is another game much like GHIII just mostly Aerosmith. Same thing applies to Metallica.

I don't see Black Sabbath getting a game. Even though they've been around for 40 years, I think plastering the name "Black Sabbath" on a box that 11 year-old-kids will be buying will open up (yet another) controversy with religious zealots.
I think both KISS and Van Halen are very likely choices. I also considered Iron Maiden, but they aren't mainstream enough. I would personally love to see a Judas Priest version as well, but it would have the same problem with not being mainstream enough, and the religious thing.

It will never happen, but Mastodon would be awesome. It would have a great variety of playing style and difficulty, and mastodon is currently one of my favorite straight up heavy metal bands out right now.
More realistically, I think slayer would stand a better chance of becoming a reality, and would be awesome.

I would be all over a Chili Peppers guitar hero, especially if they had Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik in its entirety, soo funky!

Iron Maiden instantly sprung to mind as soon as I saw this topic, but your points are well taken and you're probably right. (On that same note though...why the hell doesn't Maiden have even ONE song in GH: Metallica?? Damn that pisses me off.)
I would have to guess KISS for the next band-related one. Super popular, lots of amazing songs. Only downside is some of their biggest hits have already been on a GH. Not a dealbreaker, but something to think about.
Black Sabbath is a possibility. I would say something about parents not necessarily allowing the younger GH set to play due to Ozzy's reputation though. Granted other GH's have songs that would be 'inappropriate,' and Metallica is not exactly kid friendly, but given Ozzy's whole "Prince of Darkness" thing, I wonder if that wouldn't raise more of an outcry than other bands that could be chosen.

I would LOVE for a GH: Slayer, but the fact that Neversoft doesn't even have the balls to put Angel of Death on any of their games, shows that they most likely would never want to cut a deal with the band. Their game would probably get a warning label with "Warning: May cause finger cramps, blisters, burns, etc."
I would enjoy a GH: Nirvana too, but since they only really lasted for three albums before Kurt passed away, I don't really see it happening.

Hahaha I can't say I'm a huge Slayer fan (they're okay) but "Raining Blood" kicks my ass on GH every time. Personally, I find it more difficult that TtFaTF--probably because I can understand and follow the beat of Dragonforce a lot easier than I can Slayer. I think if I tried to play a whole game's worth of their stuff, my hands would fall off.
You know, speaking of hands falling off, after watching some videos of Cannibal Corpses' guitarist play (and hfs at him ), I would LOVE to see one of their songs in a GH, purely to see how many seconds it would take me to fail it miserably. Especially something like "Frantic Disembowelment," damn. Yes, I know CC will never make it into GH, but it would still be fun to try playing.

2 Minutes To Midnight was rumored to be on the tracklistng, but a rumour is a rumor. Maybe Rod Smallwood thought it would make them look bad being on a Metallica.
I actually came up with my own Guitar Hero tracklisting. Check it out:
Level 1: Very Easy
The Beatles- Revolution
The Rolling Stones- Honky Tonk Women
Pink Floyd- Time
Van Halen- Ain't Talkin Bout Love
Hellhammer- Triumph Of Death
Level 2: Easy
Black Sabbath- Behind The Wall Of Sleep
Jeff Buckley- Eternal Life
Sleep- Dragonaut
Pantera- This Love
Motorhead- Killed By Death
Level 3: Normal
Venom- Black Metal
Manowar- Manowar
Kiss- 100,000 Years
Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child
Led Zeppelin- Stairway To Heaven
Level 4 Hard:
Mastodon- Mother Puncher
Death- Zombie Ritual
Overkill- Wrecking Crew
Deep Purple- Child In Time
Iron Maiden- Hallowed Be Thy Name
Level 5: Insane:
Megadeth- Holy Wars
Children Of Bodom- Towards Dead End
Slayer- Angel Of Death
Dark Angel-Burning Of Sodom
Rush- La Villa Strangiato
Final Boss- Helloween- Halloween

I have to wonder if the Rolling Stones would have enough appeal to kids 15-ish and below. You've gotta remember most of these kids would rather see G-Unit than a GNR reunion.
Could anyone list out the tracks that are included on GH: Metallica? I'm curious what % of the songs are from which albums. Wouldn't surprise me to see a sudden spike in purchases for Kill'em All, Lightning, MOP and AJFA.

Well, there still are plenty of Rolling Stones T-shirts, hats and memorabilia being sold in Wal-marts, and I think there is still one poster for sale in "poster sections" at music stores. Granted, it's probably the band's logo and the tongue instead of a drugged out Keith Richards, but still.

One would presume the kids playing a game called Guitar Hero are more interested in a GN'R reunion than seeing G-Unit, being as GN'R actually has guitars and stuff.
