I have some problems with my Paper Mario cartridge. Sometimes the game will freeze, and an error screen consisting of a bunch of numbers and a message saying "Failed to load blah blah blah" appears. The music still plays. Fortunately, it happens at random so the game is still playable. Any idea what causes this?

- The console : Bought used about 5 years ago. Never really had any problems, but it's kind of picky about how I enter the cartridge. It doesn't like the cartridge to be all the way down, but instead about half an inch higher.

- The cartridge : Bought used at a flea market. My sister completed the game once without any problem, so I don't think it's defective. If it is, I can still exchange it, because the seller is awesome and offers a 6 months warranty. I actually used it once.

- The controller pack : Sometimes, it will mess up and say the data is corrupt when it's not. I don't think Paper Mario uses it though, so it could be irrevelant.

Anybody had similar problems?

Try cleaning the cartridge pins, open up the console, and clean it too. Look for tutorials online.

Yeah, Paper Mario is the only cart I have that wants to give me a hard time. It needs to be put in the machine a certain way to even work...thought it was defective the first time I tried to play. I haven't had any error messages, but it looks like it wants to freeze up every now and then.

I never had any problems with my N64 carts, so I don't have any (decent) answers for you.
