Yes , seth rogen saw the mall cop movie in january and decided to contact writers directors and every actor he knew and made this movie IN ONE MONTH . Though maybe JUST MAYBE it's a coincidence seeing as the two films plots are completely different save for the fact that the main character is a mall cop.

To be fair this really doesn't seem like his other movies. It looks much more dark.

You know I say to this day that if Jim carrey wasn't so over the top cable guy would have been much better.

Cable Guy is a great movie that's completely underrated. The problem for most people was that Jim Carrey wasn't over the top enough in it. People were expecting another loud douchey character like The Mask, Ace Ventura, or Fire Marshall Bill, and instead Carrey decided to branch out and do something darker. And it was fantastic.

Then I at least home we're not deluged with a series of movies about Mall Cops (culiminating with "Mall Movie" about 2 years after the rest of them quit coming out).
