Ok, my city isn't that small but we have recently (on monday) had a murder, and not the drug dealer/shitty part of town guy gets offed kind.

To my knowledge we have had 3-4 murders in the city in my lifetime, all of which had very very speedy resolutions as the person either turned themselves in or did it infront of a lot of people.

On Monday, a 28 year old woman, who was a former student of my current English teacher, was shot and murdered on a pathway, I believe she was headed home. This happened not too far from where I live, maybe 10-20KM max. As of now it seems as though it was random, motiveless, which would be pretty scary as those are the hardest cases to solve. The police have no real leads, they are at the step where they have the widowed husband ask for them to turn themselves in and where the police say the burden of guilt is too much so he the killer should turn themselves in. Basically, they have nothing.

Since shooting of young middle class women is something I don't think has happened in the city since I have been alive, this is pretty big news, some of you may live places where this kind of thing goes unmentioned in the news because it happens more often or what have you, but this never really happens here and if it was completely random and the case goes cold, I would not be surprised to see another murder occur, if not in this city, but in a nearby city as it has the characteristics of a serial shooter. That being said, there could have been a motive that we just don't know about yet.

Just thought I would share since this type of thing is very rare in my corner of the world.
