I played it for a while, but gave up because the sewers were so damned monotonous. Still, it's the only game besides Silent Hill 2 to scare the crap out of me.

I've never played (nor do I have a particular wish too...not my kind of game), but now I'm curious. What was so scary about it?

Crazy bums jumping out at you swinging pipes, boards and so on. The game also takes place in very dark areas.

It's more suspenseful than most survival-horror games. Everywhere you go, there's a constant feeling of pure terror around the corner. It's not like a game like Dead Space or Doom 3, where you're just kind of creeped out then something pops out. The combat is the second-biggest contributor. Every swing or the rare bullet you dish out and take just feels powerful and brutal.
Also, your enemies are frighteningly smart. I nailed one guy with a taser and disarmed him. Before I could finish him, he ran away. I figured he'd be easy pickings, but when I found him, he ripped out a power conduit, which knocked out the lights. He then began to beat the piss out of me with the power conduit. This wasn't scripted, it's just how the enemy reacted.
My only gripe with the gameplay was how clunky it felt. Figuring out timing, mixed with your character's weird movement just became frustrating. I also got tired of metro stations and sewers after the first few hours, but the biggest thing that drove me over the edge of not completing it was the System Shock-esque fetch-quests, where you'll encounter a certain type of door that can only be beaten away with a certain type of weapon. You'd then have to go on these boring fetch quests, looking in every garbage can and dark corner until you found out, often forcing you to back-track.

^ That's some pretty slick AI, I have to say. Now, do you think think the guy was actually using the strategy of knocking out the lights, or did he just pull off the power box as a weapon, and the lights went out as a side effect? (It's pretty cool either way, but I want to know exactly HOW impressed I should be ).

So, are you talking about Condemned or Silent Hill 2?

He's talking about Condemned.
I really want to play Condemned, as it's my favorite video game genre (survival horror), but I've heard about it's length (or lack thereof), and I can't seem to find it anywhere used that doesn't cost thirty bucks or so. If I can manage to find it at around 15 bucks, I'll get it without a doubt.

It looks incredibly exciting, as seen in that vid. I'll have to check it out.

This topic got me to finally finish the game, and I have to say that I would pay $60 just to play the last 3 hours of this game. All I can say is that there is a chase scene that will have you pissing yourself and a final boss fight that plays like the most brutal street fight you'll ever see. If you can look past the clunkiness of the movement, and the boring first half, it's worth buying at any store.

I just might have to check this out. I've been getting great games for dirt cheap lately, I'll have to see if I can find this. I love games that scare the poop out of me.

Geez, now I want it even more...but the question is, how long is the game?

As long as any action single-player game, as in around 12 hours. That is, twelve terrifying, brutal hours that will make sure that you leave the hall lights one when you get a glass of water in the middle of the night.
