1) Maybe I'm naive here, but what is the difference between graphic novels and comic books?
2)

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Graphic novels come bound as either hardcover or paperback books. A graphic novel, much like any other novel, will also contain a story from start to finish in it. Comic books are numbered periodicals that normally come out monthly and usually don't contain an entire story in them. Comics are also collected in trade paperbacks of usually about 6 issues or so that will encompass an entire story arc.
Of course, the terms graphic novel and trade paperback are used pretty much interchangeably. For example, Watchmen was originally a 12 issue mini-series, so technically the most celebrated graphic novel of all time is a trade paperback.

I've heard stories of towns naming streets and schools in his honor already.
Again, this is for a president who has yet accomplished anything. We don't know if he's going to be a good or bad president yet. It's way too early to tell.
Disgusting.

I actually second the idea that putting a halo on the man isn't a good idea. Both because, its true, he's barely been in office a WEEK yet, and because, face it, he's human. Obama himself has made it very clear that there *will* be mistakes during his administration, and that what the country is facing right now is not going to be fun or easy to get out of.
I do kind of understand where people are coming from with this. (Don't agree, but I understand.) First, he's the first black president. That's a huge deal to a lot of people. Second, he's articulate, which a lot of people are suckers for (and I include myself in that.) Third, he's saying what a lot of people want to hear. So yeah.
But I agree, bag the halo. It doesn't do him or anyone else any good to expect water walking.

The love for Obama is compounded by the overall disaproval of the Bush administration. People were tired of the ways of this administration, so much so that they crowned this man for merely presenting a sharp contrast to George Bush. I think he will be a good President, he is calm and actually thinks things through. Time will tell, but he seems to be doing well so far. I for one am much happier with my new boss, but yes, the Obama craze is out of hand.

I think the distaste for Bush is such at this point that anyone who got elected after him was bound to be treated a shining ray of goodness. Or it could just be because it's black whichever. Hopefully people will calm down soon.

Regardless of the Obama halo, I think it's sad that this country is in such a depraved state that the election of a new leader has such an effect on our nation. Things are apparently so bad relatively that the dedications and whatnot are flailing. Yes, he's the first Af-Am president, so that adds a certain additional flavor to the situation and it is hard to see where they draw the line between the two, but I think it really says something about how this country felt about Bush and his administration.

Ash is definitely right that race and the dislike for Bush is a big part of this.
But, in respects to Rycona's comments, if this is how we react when unemployment goes from 4.5% to 7.2%, we've lost our perspective as a nation. Everyone keeps on comparing this recession to the Great Depression, when at that point, unemployment reached 25%. Hell, this hasn't even gotten to the worst parts of Carters' term yet, when unemployment was comparable to where it is now, but inflation was almost 15% .*
*Although it has the potential to reach 70s levels, despite that inflation went down to .09% last month. We're approaching deflationary levels right now, but with all the deficit spending we've been doing lately, and are currently considering, inflation could balloon up very quickly.

Completely agreed. I'm not saying that the people are totally justified in their thinking. I'm saying more that it's terrible how bad people think it is. I mean, things aren't great, but as you displayed, this isn't another Great Depression, yet they treat it as such. Maybe we're just spoiled...

We're definitely spoiled. We have it so great in comparison to other nations and even when compared to our past, yet we have no ability to recognize it.*

In addition to literally demonizing Cindy McCain, the story is filled with lies and half-truths. Obama is praised for refusing to disown Jeremiah McCrazy, but he DID disown him a few weeks after his initial refusal.

Yeah, it's not like he won in a massive landslide. The popular vote was what, 56-44?

This transcends whether not or you agree with Obama. It's a lie-filled graphic novel that paints unflattering caricatures of Obama's opponents. It is mean-spirited propaganda and it is something that I believe Obama himself would find ignorant and offensive. And what really grinds my gears is that I know more than a few granola-eating poli-sci teachers will assign this garbage as required reading.

The flipside. I don't know, Obama's fan base can get kind of annoying seeing as how he hasn't been in office that long and all, but it's not like this sort of thing is new to Obama.

Who has ever said that? I've never met anyone who's made this argument. Yeah, maybe making stupid racist jokes (like some of my former coworker's) while saying it is racist, I've never been in on a conversation that goes like:
"Well, I think Obama's policies send too much money towards-"
-"OH GOD YOU BIGOT"
Though, yeah there are a lot of people who are blindly following him, I don't really give a damn. If they want to toss their weight behind a hero, what makes him worse than some sports star, actor, or musician. If they blindly follow when he's obviously making an overall wrong choice, then I'll be bothered, but I can only argue with them to see a light, not command them to stop because I disagree.

I was up at the 7/11 recently, picking up a six pack and when I was being cashed out, I glared past the cashier and see a box of BARRACK OBAMA TRADING CARDS!!! Oh, yeah!! I totally want to collect and trade Obama cards. "Hey Syd, I'll give ya my democratic primary card, for the Obama and Biden licking each other's asses card!!" Oh Yeah!! Gotta collect em' all!!

They make all sort of goofy trading cards. There were trading cards for Operation Desert Storm. I may review them at some point, though I'm pretty sure one of the other big pop culture sites already has.
