I was trying to explain what it was to a friend of the family whose a mother and what came out was, "It's basically glorified dogfighting." To which she responded "So all Pokemon Trainers are Michael Vicks?"

Anyway, I, like many others, was a huge Pokefreak in the Red/Blue era. After Gold and Silver, I got sick of it.
I'm jumping back in when Platinum comes though, since that's looking awesome.

I dunno I think the games can be pretty fun, though there really is no need to go and get every single one as they are basically the same.
