i never played the one for the GBA. so i have no clue how that game is.
i did play the one for the DS, partners in time, and i loved that game. i thought it was very good game yadda yadda yadda.
and here's news on mario & luigi 3:

As we first discussed back in October, Mario & Luigi 3 (due out for the DS in Japan next month) features a concept that's practically Looney Tunes in scope. How Looney Tunes, you ask? Let us recap the plot for you: The Mushroom Kingdom is suffering from a disease that makes all its citizens blow up like parade balloons. While discussing what to do, Mario and Luigi (along with most of the other top brass around Peach's castle) are swallowed up by a seemingly demented King Bowser. It's all being caused by a new evil villan who's since taken over both Peach and Bowser's fortresses, and it's up to Mario, Luigi and Bowser to restore order -- although they're not exactly working alongside each other.
Pretty ridiculous, isn't it? It gets better, though: Mario & Luigi spend most of the game exploring Bowser's body in search of a way out, while Bowser stomps around the kingdom doing his usual "marauding merchant of death" thing. Bowser doesn't appear to be aware of all the people inside his body now, so when (for example) M&L poke at a nerve on the bottom screen, Bowser freaks out on the top screen as if someone's made a voodoo doll of him. The comedic possibilities are just endless, aren't they?
This rather odd co-op mechanic plays itself out in interesting ways. While M&L's basic attack set hasn't changed much from the previous two portable RPGs they've starred in (you collect "attack parts" to build specials with and badges to give you battle bonuses, that sort of thing), Bowser's moves are more than a bit flashier. For example, you can collect "vacuum blocks" in the game and use them in battle to start sucking in air, Kirby-style. The faster you bash the X button, the more this will harm Bowser's enemies. He may even swallow them whole -- at which point the enemies become Mario & Luigi's issue to deal with.
As if that weren't enough, another item can make Bowser shoot up to movie-monster size for certain battles -- a revelation so large that you'll have to turn the Nintendo DS on its side to accompany all of his hugeness in the battles. Yipes.
Mario & Luigi 3 still has no set release date in the US, though a summer-2009 European release has already been announced. |

the premise sounds pretty silly, but thats something i expect from that series. to have a bunch of whimsical scenarios that bring a smile to my face.

I agree...finally Bowser as a "good guy" again. My mind was blown when they worked together in Super Mario RPG.

I liked the first one on GBA. It got kind of old though.
As for the playable Bowser, that's awesome. My mind was also blown in SMRPG, which is one of my all-time favorites. And the fact you're inside Bowser's body for most of the game is great, haha. There's probably going to be some gross moments, or at least there should be.
The battle system sounds kind of intriguing. Swallowing enemies whole by mashing X? I'm game.

I enjoyed playing as him in Super Paper Mario too, I do also wish Wario would pop up sometime in a Mario game again as an antagonist....

True, Wario hardly gets any airtime these days.
I really need to hurry up and play these M&L games, they sound really cool. I think I heard Geno makes a cameo in the first one. He was badass in the snes RPG. Bowser was a lot of fun too, and the concept of playing inside that guy sounds hilarious.
