So I wake up this morning to go to work and notice my Zune wasn't working. It started up and froze when it was at 100 percent. I've had it for 2 years and thought the thing crapped out on me but it turns out it's happening to all 30 GB Zunes.

Apparently the epidemic happened at exactly midnight last night. So am I the only one here with a 30 GB Zune having this problem?

Well it's working now. Seems the problem was due to the leap year. The fix was just waiting for Jan 1. At least I don't have to worry about that for another 4 years.

For those who are interested in this sort of thing, there's a post on the Zune boards which explains the cause of the problem. Basically the firmware was stuck in a loop because of sloppy coding.

Interesting. No big deal though, I thought it was going to be a huge pain in the ass to resolve. It's nothing that would make me run out and buy something else.

This was actually the word of the day on Urban Dictionary: Y2K9.

Defined as:

The simultaneous worldwide crash of every 30GB Zune worldwide during the early hours of the morning on Dec 31, 2008.

Y2K9 - oh noes!
