Bored and was curious as to what everyone feels is the best beat-em-up side scrolling game.
I have it narrowed down to two, either Streets of Rage 3 on Genesis (better than 2 cuz you can dash) or Turtles in Time on SNES.
I would probably give it toTurtles since I am a big TMNT fanboy. It was truly one of the only console ports that imo was superior to its arcade counterpart. Plus there was a great variety of moves (dropkicks, handsprings, slides) that opened up for lots of gameplay creativity.

I havent yet played that many, but River City Ransom stands out for me. It's a great co-op game.

As much as I love Haggar, the play mechanics in SOR are a bit more superior IMO, especially in 3.
Welcome to the forums as well Oz, River City Ransom is a classic that was way ahead of its time.

Streets of Rage 2 was better for me, I liked the music more and the hits seemed alot more satisfying, like when you use Max and crack someone over the head with a lead pipe. Classic.
Final Fight 3 was great imo as well, it's pretty underrated these days and Capt. Commando is top-notch as well.

Agreed, the music and general story is better in 2. However the gameplay is deeper and faster in 3. The ability to run adds great combo-ability, and the rolling up and down is so clutch for when your dealing with tons of enemies.

I was going to say something about that game, but the Genesis version makes me cry, and that is my big system so I deduct more points than usual, though the NES port was EPIC.

Speaking of Warrior Blade, does any one know if it was ever released outside of Japan? The MAME romset specifically refers to the available version as the Japanese set, and an English flyer exists for the game that contains the addresses for both the US and European headquarters for Taito, but Hardcore Gaming 101 insists it was never released outside of Japan.

You mean the one on Genesis, or was it in Arcades too? I remember enjoying that a few times back in the day.

The arcade one
Also, x-men 6 player edition with the multiscreen setup was fantastic, Syd.
