9- Extremely underrated and doesn't get the admiration it deserves
7/8- I can't decide which one is better, it changes depending on which one I'm playing
Tactics- Amazing game with a deep story. I don't think there is anything happy in this game at all.
6- Way ahead of its time, I hate to put it so low on my list but I didn't play it until a couple of years ago so it doesn't have the nostalgia factor. Gameplay is slower but the story is amazing.
4- Same was what I said about 6, I just happend to like 6 more.
10- A huge disappointment and the point where FF went downhill for me. I really hated it but suffered through it till the end. Last year I went back and played it and I now look at it a little less harshly, it is what it is. I think I like it a little more now only because in comparison to all the shitty FF games that have come out since.
10-2- If I didn't like the first one, God only knows why I tried the second. Not worth your time and it undid the only thing I liked about 10. I don't want to say what that is because it's a spoiler.
12- Played it for like an hour, I just no longer have an interest in Final Fantasy.

Those are the ones I've beaten, save for 12. I've played them all but I mentioned 12 just because it was the nail in the coffin for me. If you're looking for which one to play next, I hope you will try 9.

Shake it, Quake it, Space Kaboom.

You are really on some sort of Final Fantasy kick as of late.
I'm not gonna rate all of them because I never really played the Japan only ones that came out here. Edit: I've played them just never beat them.

IV - I don't think it is the best, but it is my personal favorite (if that makes any sense).

VI - I think this is the best all around game in the series.

XII - I know, the one most people hate. Some people don't like the way it plays. Some don't like the fact that there is no love story (pussies). Some don't like the fact that it isn't really based around one central character. For me the story was just alright. But I love the new fighting system. For me, it totally makes up for anything lacking in the story. The gambit system is great. Imagine the future of the gambit system. Imagine fighting incredibly powerful monsters, or even several (more than you're used to) monsters with a party of twenty or more. I don't know if this is where its headed, but with the gambit system, it is a possibility.

VII - I'm not one of these guys jerking off over VII. But I don't hate it either. I actually like it quite a bit. I don't think it has aged well in the visual department. But it has about as much replayability as anything in the series. Other than the outdated polygon look, I don't really have any complaints.

I - For as simple and easy as this game is, I think it has a high replay value and never stops being fun.

Mystic Quest - It seems like this is usually last on everybody's list. But I think if you take it for what it is, its not a bad game. I actually like it quite a bit. It is way easy, but it was supposed to be.

X - I actually like this game. It seems like most people think this is when the series started going downhill. As you can tell from my list, Its not my favorite game. But it is still a good game, IMO.

VIII - I pretty much like all of the games in the series. This just happens to be one of my least favorite. But I still think it is a solid game.

Legends III

Legends II

I think this is all of them I've beat.
The following are some I haven't beat. They are not in any order.

II - I only have it on GBA, so I haven't really played it.

III - I haven't played this yet. I started to play the translated rom but didn't get very far into it.

V - I really liked this. The only problem is that I have it for PS and my PS2 is currently my son's DVD player. So even though, I'd like to play this more, I don't have a lot of time between Thomas and Spongebob.

IX - I have this. I hear its really good. But for whatever reason, I haven't played it yet.

X-2 - I also have this, but haven't played it yet either.

Legends I - I've never played it.

Tactics - I've only played it as a rental and didn't get to finish it, but liked it a lot. I haven't played any of the other tactics.

VI - Really put the SNES to the test at the time. Innovative and excellent story/gameplay. You could consider me obsessed with this game as I even went so far as to get a tattoo in homage to it.

IX - I'm not sure why I love this game so much. But I really became engaged in the story. Never have I enjoyed a side-story as much as Vivi's.

Tactics - I've always had a preference for tactic games like this and Shining Force/Tactics Ogre games, and even though the story was pretty bad, the gameplay more than made up for it.

IV - Enormous replay value. It probably should be higher on my list but it just isn't. Deal with it.

VII - Materia System. Vincent. Chocobo Racing. Enough said.

VIII - I wasn't a huge fan of the story, too much lovey dovey crap going on. But overall it was well written and the gameplay was good.

X - A great game but Tidus' voiceover actor brings this one down low on the list.

XII - I think the whole new battle system seemed too far off of the norm for me. Overall though, a game this low on any list is just a testament to the games higher than it.

X-2 - There is just something about female lead characters that makes me think they are trying to get proactive. Who knows? Next thing you know these women will be allowed to vote. Too unrealistic.

IX - I also can't explain why I loved it so much. It was the first FF to truly engage me and thus, the very first one I actually finished. All the others I quit halfway through. It is definitely one of the most underrated RPGs ever made.

X-2 - Although I disliked FFX, I found X-2 to be delightfully simple, yet fun to play and the dressphere system was impressive and intuitive. The characters this time around were better fits with the world having had their personalities altered a bit. Only the second FF I ever bothered to finish. Plus, I just have a thing for playing female characters, I'm not sure why.

VIII - Although I still haven't finished it, I like the more serious style and tone of 8 as opposed to anime feel of other FFs

X - Looking back on this game, I have a bad taste from it. But while I played it, it was enjoyable and held my attention. I just didn't like the skill grid system, and the mandatory shitfest that was Blitzball really killed the game for me. I also think that of all the FF games, none of the characters in X felt like they belonged in the world or belonged together.

VII - I never understood the appeal or hype of FF7. Even when it first came out, I wasn't impressed and thus didn't play it for very long. The inhuman polygonal graphics bothered me and the story is convoluted and confusing. I eventually went back just a few years ago and played through the entire thing, but still wasn't impressed.

That's my list. I still have yet to play III, IV, VI, or XII, so can't comment on those.

VI and IV were amazing, as was V but it doesn't stand up to them story-wise. VII hasn't aged well at all, plus I just can't forgive it for the crappy fanbase and general bad influence over all future FF and non-FF jrpg games it has given, in addition I could probably make a grilled cheese sandwich by the time Knights of the Round was finished. X and XII were both absolute crap-fests, plagued with uninteresting storylines and characters as well as bad acting and Tidus, god how I loathe Tidus....

The SNES games were seriously the best ones in the series, an awesome trilogy really.

I've only played but not beaten 1-7. So best to worst =

4>6>7>5>Superman 64>2>3>1.

Sorry, my attention span isn't long enough for the super slowness and primitive gameplay of the NES trilogy.

I hate FF7's retarded fanbase too, but it's great nonetheless.

I know! I've recently rediscovered my love for the SNES, and own FFVI on SNES and PSone, but every time I start to play it, I get really busy and forget about it. Then the next time, I swear I'm going to play through it and start over so I get the complete story, only to stop a few hours later again.

I need to seal myself in a shipping container for a week and just play it.

I'm really looking forward to playing FFIV on the DS though, hopefully very soon.

I have the same problem when I try to play long games. Either I have stuff to do, something good is on tv, or I'm in the mood for a movie instead. Eventually, I haven't played the game in so long it becomes useless.

You have to, in your spare time, only play the game. If you have a couple of free hours, don't watch tv, don't pop in a movie, don't play another game, don't get on the internet. Just play the game. If you don't do this, you'll never get it done. If you do this, you'll be surprised how quickly you roll through the game.

I don't know why I post in these FF threads, they all more or less end up being defend your favorite FF threads, but here goes:

7
6
10
5
4
8
1
9
12
X-2
Never played the other ones, and X-2 i didnt beat because it was complete shit.

I don't understand why people dislike a game because of it's fan base. Yeah, there are a bunch of retarded ff7 fans, but Star Wars and Star Trek also have retarded fans but that doesn't mean they still don't kick ass.

Dances with Wolves 2 is gonna ROCK!

As for FFT i wouldnt know where to put it in my list. Some days i love it, others it infuriates me to no end causing me to not touch it for loooong stretches.

and fuck the PSP remake with it's slowdown and dialog edits. How dare they reword "die in obscurity" to make it sound fruity.

Now here's a topic.

1. VI (Greatest game ever, anywhere, anytime - though too easy, even with the handicap challenges. This game actually explained a philosophy as to why characters learned magic. It was not from just gaining experience in the world, magic actually had an origin and was explained in a coherent, linear manner - not just some superpower that anyone could learn or buy. [speaking from within the FF paradigm])
2. VII (Revolutionized the way I viewed games, it brought the series to a new level. The materia system was the apotheosis of customizable characters.)
3. IV (My first SNES RPG. Great. Red on the cover cart.)
4. I [ONLY the NES version!!] (This game is actually easier with a one or two character party. Black on the cart. label with axe and sword supporting the world. The original version came with equipment and enemy charts. Some maps were included also, including a guidebook in the instruction manual that took you up to the Gurgu Volcano. The instructions with the original Zelda [made me blow my load the first time I saw it] added a short walkthrough within its cover also, a great time to be 6 years old....)
5. IX (Last one in the series I touched. The stealing of precious items was too much until you got the Thief Gloves on Disc 3. I haven't owned a console system since PSXII, and I got rid of that pretty quick - too... too mainstream, or too Hollywood, or something. Not gaming like in the golden era...)
6. Legend II (Blue on the cover of the cart.)
7. Adventure (I had it for Game Boy and it was addicting - more than crack- & green on the cover)
8. VIII
9. Legend
10. Mystic Quest
11. Legend III (Prolly better than Mystic Quest, I just like the music in MQ better. Purple on the cart.)
12 & 13. I played FFIIj and FFIIIj. FFIIIj was better, IMO due to the introduction to the job system, made famous in Vj and Tactics.
14. Tactics should be higher on my list, I liked it better than VIII, but it's just not a pure Final Fantasy. Except for Legend III and MQ, this is the only other FF game I played without Nobuo Uematsu's genius composing the music.

I suppose I'll start by rating the FF games that I've beaten...

#1 - VI - Almost my favorite RPG ever, second only to Mario RPG
#2 - V - Not quite as good as 6, but still, you can't go wrong with the job system.

There we go, there's my list. ><

I can't even count the number of great games I have that I've never finished, the FF list among them. I have at least started most of them, though, so let me think of where I left off...

#3 - VII - I stopped playing at the Temple of the Ancients, when I was forced to use Aeris, whom I hadn't used since the very beginning of the game... Then I stupidly loaned my memory card to a friend, haven't seen it since.
#4 - IV - For the longest time, I was stuck in the Magnetic Cave. I finally got past it, then... just stopped playing... I think I'll get back to that now...
$5 - IX - To be honest, I really don't remember where I left off... I know I was still somewhere in the first disc. Some sort of city where you take lifts or trams to different sections sticks out in my head... No idea what the hell was even going on.
#6 - I - Apparently, I left off questing for the Water Crystal... Getting about 1-3,000 gold per crit... needing, oh... 200,000 gold at least for new magic, weapons, and armor... I hate grinding. ><
Tie for #6 - II, III, VIII - Of these three, I think I've played maybe 3 hours total combined... II's battle system and lack of direction lost me, III, I dragged myself through the dungeon where you're forced to be mini... to immediately enter a dungeon where you're forced to be a toad, I just couldn't stand it. VIII, I only played a short time at a friend's house, never owned it.
#7 - X - I didn't realize it was actually Final Fantasy: Grindfest. I never swapped out my characters in every battle, so I ended up with a vastly underleveled group... I remember being up on some snowy mountain, fighting Seymour for the Nth time, and losing miserably. And yes, despite only playing II, III, and VIII for such a short period of time, I feel that I would enjoy them more than I enjoyed my time playing X. Did I mention I hate grinding?

I actually meant to put Legend II ahead of Legend III, but I think I put III first by mistake.
