| Awhile back my job started requiring everyone to have this Comptia A+ certification and I take the last test tomorrow (it's 4 tests) after a month of studying for this crap. I had never heard of it but apparently it's an "industry standard" according to the material. I'll be glad to be done with it after tomorrow because its more of a pain in the ass then it is informative. What I was wondering though if anyone is familiar with it and if it is actually useful to have. I hadn't heard of it before I was put in the program. Is this something that's actually credible for me? Is it something that will open up new doors for me? I'm thinking if anyone can put it in perspective for me, its probably GP. After tomorrow I will be able to say I'm A+ certified, whatever that means. |
Good luck sir!
I am in fact A+ & Network+ certified. The test has changed a few times. When I took the A+ it was two tests and was an adaptive style test. There was a Windows OS test and a Hardware test. If you did well, the test would be shorter, if you did poorly the test would be longer. They offered one hour to take each test. I finished the Software one in 5 minutes and the Hardware one in 6.
I hear that the test is no longer adaptive.
The certification proves that you have a basic technician's understanding of computing hardware and software.
More importantly though it is about proving that you are serious about your career path.
Some companies will look favorably if you have certifications on your resume, while others won't care. You will never be penalized for having it though. I personally think it helped me get an interview for my previous job.
