So I was looking at yesterday's traffic report, and I have 470 hits through cia.gov

That means that someone somehow accessed my site through cia.gov, which generally means that there's a link to the site somewhere on the CIA site. But I checked, and there doesn't seem to be.

So I went into the site logs:

Not sure what this means. Perhaps CIA employees are forced to use a proprietary browser or internet usage logger?

Anyway, cia.gov is NOT something you want to see in your sitelogs.

The CIA has little if any jurisdiction in the US. The stuff they do abroad is handled domestically by the FBI and Homeland Security. So unless one of you jerks is an international terrorist, the site should be fine.

Dude, the idea that the government is spying on this site is ridiculous. What could possibly be said on here that they need to take note of? I understand that its worth Syd's time to think about why he got that traffic, but everybody else should stop getting excited about it.

That's what I want to believe, but it doesn't explain how they're being redirected here THROUGH the CIA site.

If it's all coming from one IP it's probably a bot [EDIT: or a person] with a bogus HTTP referer. It certainly looks like it, because if you were linked from somewhere on the CIA website the referer header would usually contain a full path to the page, not just the domain name. And unless the IPs where the requests originate fall in the CIA's IP range, I doubt it's coming from the CIA HQ.

Yeah, just what Tyop said. There were two or three levels on HackThisSite that required spoofing your referrer.
