I've just downloaded my 42nd game onto my Wii, Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars. Good thing my birthday's this month, or I'd be in for a long wait for an SD card so I can download a certain two games I'm--we're--inexplicably still waiting for.

Mario RPG used to seem like the longest game ever when I was a kid, but playing through it again recently really showed me how short it was. Furthermore I had more trouble beating Jinx this time than I did Culex for fuck's sake. I remember him being easy as fuck before.
I still love the Beetle minigame, goddamn I have the best score ever on there. Something like 5 billion WITHOUT AUTOFIRE.
As a side note, Double and Triple techs in Chrono Trigger are gay and useless, just use luminaire and melee.

An SD card is useless in terms of storage. You can move games on to it, but you can't play them from it, so there's no real advantage to moving it to an SD card over, say, deleting it and redownloading when you want to play it again. Game data is saved separately, so deleting a game doesn't delete your save files.

As long as I keep one channel free, I can just move games on and off the card.

What They Play posted a well-considered article today speculating that Nintendo intends to unleash an HD successor to the Wii by 2011. Citing game developer and publisher sources, the story specifically calls the new hardware said to be in development "next generation" and a "true successor to the Wii." Those sources declined to detail any specifications but did describe the capabilities as including high definition video output, emphasis on digitally distributed content -- with the storage solution to make that viable -- and continued backward compatibility.
Along with the anonymous sources, What They Play examined recent Nintendo financial reports. From these they found the company to have dramatically accelerated its research and development (R&D) spending in the past few years. Putting more pieces of the puzzle together, the story further notes that the joint development agreement between IBM and AMD that in part resulted in the Wii hardware internals expires at the end of 2011. If backward compatibility is a priority that could provide a good bit of incentive to get the next machine together.
At the same time, the current hot rumor is that Nintendo intends to unveil a new DS handheld at any moment. With hinted at specification like a camera and music player taking it ever closer to that of the iPhone, you have to start wondering whether slowly but surely Nintendo is positioning itself to make a play for more than just your gaming dollar. Considering the high aspirations the company once held for connectivity between the GBA and GameCube, it's not that difficult to imagine the new DS as first link of a new tandem.
Regardless, for anyone who enjoys conspiracy theory-like speculation, it's worth popping over for a full read. |

iPhone games are what you play when you can't get at actual games. You know, like how sometimes alcoholics drink mouthwash. |

I've been at capacity for longer than you guys. Downloading every N64 game will do that.
Nintendo announced they're finally going to let you play games directly off an SD card... in Spring 2009. This is completely unacceptable. It's a fucking firmware update, and it should have been ready months ago. Give it to us now, goddamit. I swear to fucking God, Nintendo is retarded sometimes. The Wii version of Rock Band 2 is supposed to DLC, and that comes out in November. They're really going to make us wait 5 months after the game comes out for DLC? Gaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

I have been at capacity for a while, I have Mario 64 and Sin and Punishment as far as VC 64 games go. I am also nearing the end of my fourth page of VC titles. Did you hear about th new storage solution at TGS?? apparently they are going to make it much easier and practical to save memory to an SD card,

I'm not sure where you heard that. It's my understanding that next spring we will be able to download games directly to an SD card...but we still won't be able to actually play them from an SD card.

It was Kotaku.
Direct DL to SD doesn't even make sense without being able to load off the card.

You get them at the very start of the game, since you're playing a New Game+ on the SNES cartridge you've owned since 1995, because you're NOT a loser. Right?
