I've never really finished SMB 1, and I put in Super Mario Brothers All Stars and I beat SMB the first time and then I clicked start to do the Harder Version of SMB and then I beat that. My question is, If I beat the Harder Version and I click start again, does that make it even harder or what does it do?

Thanks. I was just wondering, because I didn't want to repeat the game forever and ever .

No, I think it actually does make it harder. To actually test this you have to get to a level with Hammer Bros on it. Go there and they should be turned into something higher, like Bowsers instead.

I hated that level, couldn't figure out how to get onto the stand on one so the other one goes up thing to get to the moving platform. I jumped a bit and found 2 invisible blocks, one holding a purple mushroom. It was a bitch to get onto it, but I finally got it. I'm currently on the 4th and Final section of D-4.
If your wondering what I mean by sections, I mean the first section is the start of the level, second section is where you go through the pipe up to the top part, third section is the bonus area, and 4th section is the final part of D-4.

The first "hard mode" of SMB changes all the Goombas to Buzzy Beetles, makes the ground enemies move faster, and they track you better when they fall from a ledge (they turn to face you). Plus you can select your world.
There are NO other changes beyond that for further playthroughs.
As for the Lost Levels...screw them.

What the hell is wrong with you Usa (No Offence), Lost Levels is a test of skill. You better be one good damned 2D Platform Player to make it. I happened to make it (With Warps). It wasn't easy, but it shows that I am a determined gamer who will stick to something when he starts it or if betted on.

The Lost Levels are ok, I've beaten it(and the A-D levels) but I agree with Satsui, I'll still take my newly skinned SMB2 over it

Wait... didn't you say you needed to use save states to get to world 2 in SMB3? |
If that's true then this entire thread is moot.

I always thought there should have been a third version that replaced all the Goomba and Beetles with Spinies. That would have been badass.

That would have been a pain in the ass of epic proportions.

I can beat them. I just don't like them. And beating it with warps doesn't count.
The game, in my eyes, is a good example in how not to design a video game. People who know Miyamoto think he must have been depressed or something when he made it.

That was a while back, I haven't played the game in a long while so I might have to use save states I might not.

If you're trying to play Super Mario 3 with a keyboard, I can see the necessity of save states.

Especially the last boat stage, hard as hell with a keyboard. I'm too lazy to plug in my nice controller, so I guess I just test my skills with keyboard.

Just map the A and B buttons to 8 and 9 on the keypad on the far right of the keyboard, map the D pad to W A S and Z, and hold the keyboard like a giant NES controller. It works, I've done it.

I'm gonna remember this for the next NES Challenge. I moved the buttons around when I played, but I was still basically using a keyboard.

Same. But people always say joysticks are better. I'm better with the keyboard, the joystick just has more fluent controls.

I'm actually better using the standard keyboard way. |
The default way feels left handed. I can't do it. I first played DD2 when I got my Emulator online and didn't change the buttons. So I got ab it confused feeling I was playing without my dominant hand with a game that has attacks change directions. Made me find a better way real quick

I'm semi ambidextrous.
Actually... I use different hands for different things. I write with my right hand but throw and do sports left-handed. And in tennis I play left-handed but serve right-handed. Pretty weird, huh?

I've currently finished 3/4 of the games, last one happens to be SMB 3.
