I had never seen this before until it was on TV a few days ago. I had no real expectations for this movie... Seagal's early stuff is decent, Under Siege is awesome, and Under Siege 2 is decent, but most of his post-Siege stuff is crap. Sure, Executive Decision was good, but that was doesn't count because Seagal dies like halfway through.
After Siege, Seagal subjected us to crap like Fire Down Below, On Deadly Ground, The Patriot, and Interracial Buddy Cop Film #5000. Exit Wounds was actually all right. It was the second-to-last Seagal film to get a U.S. theatrical release and it was actually pretty decent. There was some good action, Seagal wasn't fat yet, and most importantly, it had a great cast:
Steven Seagal
Jill Hennessey
Eva Mendes
Bruce McGill
Bill "Green Beret" Duke
Michael Jai White
DMX
Christopher Lawford, Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife's cousin and son of the Rat Pack's Peter Lawford
Tom Arnold

I'm sure the statement still stands, but I was confused for a moment.

Me too, to a large extent. I'll watch him in almost anything, but Captain Corelli's Mandolin just had no appeal to me. Can't wait for Ghost Rider though.

Yes, I hadn't seen Exit Wounds when I made that comment. That doesn't make it any less true though. There are a lot of movies that aren't as good as Con Air that I haven't seen. Vin Diesel's A Man Apart comes to mind, as well as The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift. I actually have seen Fire Down Below and On Deadly Ground though, so I can personally attest to their awfulness.

You know I feel the same way about Van Damme's "Desert Heat". I saw it on TV once when I was staying at a hotel, and realized that if you take it for what its worth, a movie that doesn't take itself seriously, its a decent flick.

"A Man Apart" isn't as good as "Con Air", but let's not totally brush it off.
'3 Fast 3 Furious' is far from being as good as "Con Air", but I laughed much more at the former.
And I don't remember ever stating that one film was better than the other when I initally listed off those films. However, I think making "Con Air" the standard that all movies must live up to or the basis for any sort of review is a good idea.

Con Air should be the standard for everything, not just action movies and hair dryers. I want a girl who will yell "PUT THE BUNNY BACK IN THE BOX!" during sex.
