I know the point is random people being heroic, I'm just saying I don't like McLuvin as Red Mist, his character in the Comic seemed much more gruff and hip as a Hero, he came off as cool to me. The movie Red Mist is going to come off dorky and bumbling. Like the comic relief of the film. I think that guy from Alpha Dog would have been a good Red Mist. His name escapes me, the main "bad" guy.

Emile Hirsch. He seems to fit the role perfectly in my mind.

But he's like 30. They needed a teenager or someone that looks like a teenager. There are better choices, but I think McLovin will do just fine.

Did you read the book? Michael Cera would be TERRIBLE! At least McLovin has energy! You can't have Red Mist being all goofy looking and docile...except when he's high, I guess?

red mist was a total bitch in the end, which is why i naturally thought of michael cera. even before the end of the book, he was being a bitch (trying to run away from that building fire).

to me, michael cera = bitch.

whereas, mclovin = annoying nerd kid.

When he isn't sporting a beard, he looks young as hell. Plus he's like 5'8". He would be like Rachel McAdams in Mean Girls. She was like 30 and looked 14.

Red Mist was at least able to pretend he was tough though. Michael Cera is a bitch.

i agree. in the first half of the comic series Red Mist did represent himself as a badass, and then he became a bitch in the latter half of the comic.

but you are right, michael cera is a bitch thru & thru.

Damn straight he is. Even in the movie where he has the alternate persona who's supposed to be a badass, he's still a little bitch. He's just a little bitch with better lines and a pack of cigarettes.

Christ, missed alot of action in this thread.

Overall, I think they did a fantastic job with casting, especially with Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl).

I was skeptical about Cage at first, but after seeing the trailers progress and had more time to think about it, I think he will be fine.

I was skeptical when they case Nicholas Cage, then issue #7 came out and I realized how perfect it was.

I'm really excited about the movie, but I just know that they are going to go for the comedy side of it and really play that up and completely lose most of the violence and all of the darkness. And I hate the costume changes. Big Daddy's costume was BAD ASS and now he just looks like Batman, I guess just to make it more accesable to the superhero-movie audiance. I also don't understand why they gave kick-ass a mouth on his mask, but whatever. It'll be pretty bad-ass though.

You wouldn't happen to be the Tek Knight by any chance?

John Romita Jr. designed the costumes for the movie (Part of the reason why the books were so late. He had more going on than he was able to handle), so it's not like it was some Hollywood exec sending on orders from down high. That may have happened in part, but it was still the same guy designing the comic and live action costumes. As for the mouth on Kick-Ass, I imagine they needed the actor to breath. I imagine little if any of what he does needs to be computer animated, unlike, say, Spider-Man, so it's harder to get away with having the mouth covered.

Exactly, issue #7 really solidified in my mind that Cage would be good for the character, as you were able to fully see who and what the character represents.

Well, Jeebus, now that you mention it it sounds so odvious. I guess I never thought of actors as human and didn't think that they needed to breath or eat or shit for that matter. I also thought they were grown in fish tanks and only brought out for movies and were put back in their fish tanks when it was done. Laughing

But it is good to know that. Even if I don't like it, it is better that Romita Jr. did it than some cock-stank exec. I can feel my faith slowly comeing back.
