Base your decision on anything you want, but explain why you chose what you did.
NES- The Advantage. It's the closest to a real arcade stick. Plus it's got slo mo and adjustable turbo.
The Bone Controller. More comfy than the rectangular NES pad.
NES Max- this is more of an honorable mention. The 8way directional pad was a huge flaw. The control cross would have been better imo. I liked the design though, since the edges didn't cut into my hands and it had turbo.
SNES- the original is the only one i've used besides a third party programmable pad which was a piece of shit. I like it becouse of the comfortable design.
Genesis- I like the genesis controller because it fits in my hand perfectly. Downside is that there's only three buttons unless you're lucky enough
Playstation- Well since they're all designed pretty much the same for all three sony consoles, I'm gonna say the original ps1 digital pad. The Dual Shock controllers always shit out on me after a while.
Dreamcast- This controller kicked ass because of the VMU. On some games, like RE Code Veronica it would show in game stats. Plus it felt super comfortable in my hands.
Xbox- after they got rid of the original controller, the Controller S was spot on. The original had a fucked up button arangement, plus it was too fat and chunky to hold on to. The S controller had the buttons angled perfectly and the white and black buttons were easier to access.
Game Boy advance- I know it's not a controller but in my opinion the design is more comfortable in my hands than the backlit game boy advance sp.

Indeed, any controller where you can pretend that it's a Naboo Starfighter or The Batjet is win in my opinion.

Fuck that. I hated the design of the N64 controller. The "claw" shape and z button underneath basically forced you to use the stick for virtually every game. Plus the yellow buttons are way too small. The controller seems to have been designed for super mario 64. The controller is of good quality, but flawed design.

Atari 2600 Controller, simple and innovative for its time. It's my favorite.

Just look at it. One joystick. One button. All you needed back then. Simple and innovative, like you said.

I'd hate to say it, but I agree with M3GA. I hated the N64 controller, but thought the GC controller was a vast improvement. It's kind of cool though, how nintendo and sega's controllers constantly changed. But Nintendo wins for totally overhauling their designs year after year. Dammit, since sega is third party now why don't they make game controllers for all consoles?

I personally didn't like the DC controller, it felt very uncomfortable. I really liked the Saturn controller though, even if it is just a six-button Genesis controller with shoulder buttons....

I always liked the atari 2600's controller. It had the 3 things a controller needs comfort, originality, and skull-denting power.

I think the Playstation Dualshock is one of the best controllers out there. The only thing that mars it's beauty is the awful d-pad. I think a Dualshock with the d-pad from the NES bone controller would be absolutely perfect.
I also like the Xbox 360 controller, again the only thing being a crap d-pad.

I LOVED the DC controller. Does anyone remember the controller they introduced for the orignal nIGHTS? Very comfortable design.

It's going to be a tie between the Super Nintendo controller and the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive 6-button pad. They are both comfortable to hold in your hands, they both had the perfect amount of buttons and they were both innovative and retro at the same time.
In second place would be the Wii Classic Controller. It is essential to have for the Virtual Console, especially for Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games. Seriously, have you ever played Super Mario World with a Gamecube controller? I did once, and I absolutely hated it.

SNES, Genesis, N64, Xbox (original cause I have big hands, perfect for me and the Controller S), Dreamcast and of course, the Wiimote.
Playstation controllers are a little uncomfortable for me, and like Cam said, fix that D-Pad on the 360 controller. Bad for fighters, but who the fuck plays fighters with any current gen console D-Pad?

Wiimote? Really? all of my friends that are more hardcore gamers use the GC controller on the Wii because they all think the Wiimote is a piece of shit, one guy in particular who is insanely hardcore into nintendo stuff, and he can't stand the wiimote.
I like the genesis controller and the SNES controller alot. Since I've played Xbox and 360 most of my gaming life for FPS, I can't stand the N64 controller for FPS's, it just feels too awkward, I used to like it for Goldeneye, but i returned the game, it just hasn't aged well with that controller for myself.

I like the Playstation controller. 2nd to that would be the Sega Genesis 6 button controller... I loved the d-pad, and the fact that the buttons were set up perfect for SF and MK, not R and L button bs.

First choice: Keyboard & Mouse - great control, large number of options, best precision
Second choice: Wiimote - easy and fun to use, good play control when developers do it right
Third choice: SNES - good button placement, size is good, good precision.
