So for those of you whom haven't followed me on facebook, I recently got a job working back at the same gas station I was let go from about 16 months ago (was actually retrained Tuesday night). The place is under new management, so of course there were some changes. Things like selling mini-bongs with the disclaimer they're only intended for tobacco use. While I wince at that sort of clientele, I was also dealing with the store's policy of selling cigarettes as singles or three/$1 (I am aware this is illegal, though I realize it's a minor crime).
However, the reason that I ended my employment over there (besides being paid under the table at $6/hour) was not only the general aura of shadiness to the store, but discovering that the room that used to serve as my previous boss' office was converted into a cash-winnings slot machine parlor.
My issue is that I want to report this, but I'm worried that since I quit today (claiming I'd been offered a FT job at Sear's) the new manager'll figure out I "squealed" and show footage of me selling single cigarettes since it's on camera. In short, what should I do?

You're not going to get arrested for selling single cigarettes. What you need to do is contact your state's gaming comission. They'll be up there in his ass so fast he'll think he got raped by the Flash. If the store has sold "loosies" before, especially if the other people working there have, you're not going to get in trouble, especially if you let them know it was your manager's policy. Besides, he was paying you under the table, and that shit's illegal too.

Uh... Talk to a lawyer. Know what repercussions you might face before you take action. There is nothing wrong with self preservation in a case like this.

Did the owner of the store do something to you to give you a reason to be vindictive? I wouldn't do it unless he is some kind of major douchebag who has it coming. Snitching is not cool dude, especially for shit that should not even be against the law in the first place.
If people want to play slot machine poker for actual money or buy single cigarettes they should be able to, but alas we have some very stupid laws.

im with phantasmzombie on this. selling singles is not a huge deal IMO. people sometimes cant afford a full pack, but still need a drag, so let them smoke those carcinogens.
also, the gambling doesnt hurt anyone, except the person losing their money. now if he is rigging it so no one wins, then thats BS. but if he is keeping it fair & even, i would personally look the other way.
just my 2 cents.

Yeah if you have a grudge against the guy I could see that being the only reason to squeal about something so minor.

I dunno I'd be hesitant to report it without consulting a lawyer about what kind of trouble I could get into. Yet I might do it just because what if someone else turns them in? I wouldn't want them to have me on tape and me get in trouble because I didn't report it. I'd talk to a lawyer for sure though.

This is how I feel about the situation.
But as stated. Consulting a Lawyer would not be the dumbest idea ever.
By yeah, why are you so against this employer? They had to do something to you.

I am appalled that no one here believes in doing the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing. Sathien must have a vendetta to report a crime?

I disagree, I don't think its because people don't believe in doing the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing, I think its a matter of people not believing in snitching for the sake of snitching. There is nothing admirable about reporting people for victimless crimes to people with guns.

I wouldn't call gambling a victimless crime.

Look at it this way, if you really feel it is the right thing to do to report them, you do it. Are you going to let fear of possible retaliation dictate your moral choices?

no crime is a victim less crime, except that in terms of gambling, the gamblers went into it willingly. i mean the slot room is in the back room, and they went in there w/the hopes of winning. they put their money in there. no one forced them to.
