I mean I'm no hacker but the whole premise seemed like bullshit.

The Feds could have used some sort of homeland security crap to force every US ISP to shut everything down, that way no one goes to the website. Then they could have figured out who went there and arrest them for accomplice to murder.

And is it really possible to make a website untraceable? Doesn't your computer have to know where the website is to see said website?

Also hacking into her car and shutting everything off was bullshit. I know that onstar lowjack etc can shut the ignition off and lock / unlock the doors and track, but come on now. Confused

I just plain did not like this movie, I think Live Free or Die Hard was a more scary portrayal of hacking than this boring movie.

It was fairly entertaining I thought, but it was also clearly terrible and impossible.

It is possible. Websites within the TOR, Freenet and I2P networks can't be traced back (practically), nor can the people that access them. It's done by encrypting and routing the data through a number of randomly chosen servers within the network. The only way to trace somebody is by controlling all nodes for a given communication (that's technically not correct, but I won't bore you with details). I doubt that was what they did in the movie though.

Well it was still really annoying how the feds we're all OMG WE CANT STOP IT DER!

Also the whole line "ROFL? ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING?! YOU SICK BASTARD!!!" Laughing

Plus it just felt really cookie cutter, Hmmm they spend a good twenty minutes introducing the main Heroine's Daughter and establishing they live together, gee I wonder who's gonna get kidnapped later? Rolling Eyes

I just watched this. I thought it was good. Actually, to tell you the truth, it was kind of like watching a feature length episode of Criminal Minds or something like that.

One thing I don't like in movies like this is when they reveal the bad guy's identity so early. Basically, there were no real twists in the plot. I guess unless you want to call the motive a twist.

Please don't compare this to Criminal Minds.

Criminal Minds is much better than this movie.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't care for it either.

No, no, no. Its not even close to Criminal Minds. What I meant is that the movie felt like a long tv episode based on the idea of catching a sociopath through a combination of profiling and detective work. Criminal Minds is one of the best shows on television. This show would just be okay.
