Ok what's better?
I prefer pie over cake but the both have their pros / cons.
Pie is usually better than cake, but sometimes can be hairy, also the crust is annoying.
Cake sometimes has strippers jump out of it, which is something pie cannot lay any claim to, also if your having cake there's a decent chance it's your birthday. Plus cakes can be far more elaborate than pie.
And since I know someone will do it here's the obligatory hilarious cake / pie image macros.

You guys are fools, cake is the obvious winner in this fight. Sure, pie has some heavyweights; apple, pumpkin, key lime, chocolate silk. But no one can stand up to cake! So many variations, so many potential frosting combos! Cake wins just on frosting alone, people don't argue over who gets which section of a pie because of the filling do they? But fights break out over those pieces of cakey real estate that possess frosting roses!
And you can't make a pie do this
