So Detective Mike Logan (Chris Noth) has left the show due to the fact that the writers consistently fucked him over. He complained that the show wasn't character driven, and that was partly true. The episodes with the Logan/Wheeler team rarely explored the characters' personal lives whereas the Goren/Eames episodes are literally written around Vincent D'Onofrio's Goren - not an easy task considering the man's ever ballooning weight. So Noth, a veteran of Law & Order Classic and the actorbehind one of the franchise's most beloved and longest running characters, ending up asking for his release, which Dick Wolf granted. On an unrelated note, Dick Wolf is a complete asshole. He has a long history of firing actresses who ask for time off when they get married.
So Noth is out, and Jeff Goldblum is joining the cast as his replacement. Jeff Goldblum, the same actor who, outside of a cameo in Run Ronnie Run, hasn't done anything worthwhile since 1997. Jeff Goldblum, who played a detective last year's critically panned series Raines, which lasted all of seven episodes. Hey assholes, if no one wanted to see him as a detective LAST year, why the fuck would we want to see as a detective THIS year?

Jeff Goldblum should only play Jewish scientists.

I can't watch Criminal Intent anyways. Dunno why, just can't hold my interest.
I live SVU, though.

Which part of it do you live, the raping children part or the catching people who rape children part?

Vincent D'Onofrio drives me fucking nuts.
I can't stand him.
He is so annoying that I avoid Criminal Intent.
I enjoy the original Law & Order the best, though the show hasn't been as good without Jerry Orbach.
After being a Prosecutor on TV since 1994 I wonder how well Sam Waterston would do on the NY Bar exam.

Sam Waterston is awesome. I dunno if I'd still watch the original if he ever left.
D'Onforio is definitely annoying, but he's also strangely entertaining. It's like watching Shatner. Every scene he's in is all about him. And with Noth, at least we had balance. Every other episode had a lead actor who didn't chew the fuck out of the scenery. Goldblum is going to the accept same neurotic act that D'Onofrio does, because it's the only thing he knows how to do, and it's going to wear thin.

Sam Waterson actually came to my college one time to promote some charity he's big on, but I didn't find out until after he left.

The children raping children part. That's what does it for me.
Okay, seriously. It's just more interesting to watch for me. L&O seems too much like two different shows for me to keep too much interest in, and I really hate CI's way of showing "cut scenes" of the bad guy doing some evil stuff. Besides, adding the element of a sex crime adds another level to the drama since it makes people want to see the pervert go down that much more.
And Ice-T is friggin' badass.

Ice-T and Detective Munch don't get enough face time on SVU.

Call me a retard, but isn't Richard Belzer's character from "Homicide : Life on the Street" the same character from "Law and Order"?

Yes. His character has also appeared in other shows such as X-Files.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think he holds the record for playing the same character on the most serieses.

I actually like the Goren character. But CI is easily my least favorite L&O. But I'm not picky.

I believe you're right. I think Kelsey Grammer still holds the record playing the same character in the most episodes though.

I always thought that it would be cool for an actor to create a character (that he actually owns the rights to) and then try to get as many guests spots on TV as possible on anything from shows like Law & Order to sitcoms, to cartoons like the Simpsons or King of the Hill.

You'd get a character who's never on anything ever. I can't imagine the producer who says "What? We'd not only be paying an actor, but also additional royalties for this intellectual property for no reason at all? Sign me up!"

I know it wouldn't work. I just think it'd be cool. You wouldn't necessarily have to pay royalties. A real cool actor wouldn't care about that. Top priority would just be getting the character on the shows.
