We all know .com, .net, .org etc...
My question is if a domain that was strictly for porn existed and was enforced (as best as possible) would it be a good thing? Lets say it was .xxx
I personally think it would. Schools and workplaces could filter out the top level domain and adults at home would know exactly what they were getting into.
What do you guys think?

Personally, if I would a site called something.xxx I would assumed it got hacked into and screwed it up.

I bet it would work to an extent - I mean all of them are already .com's anyways, and I bet it would be tough to convert them to .xxx. It certainly would make it easier to filter at schools and stuff.
I just think it would fall the way of the other ones that havent caught on, like .tv and others.

Or what if there had to be an "XXX" in the name? Like "sydleXXXia.com

If the top level domain companies all agreed then they could enforce that their top level domains couldn't point to certain types of media.
VeriSign for example is in charge of all .coms

Not worth it. The domain wouldn't be used, because the ".com" is too valuable.
If you were starting a website, what would you choose for a domain? http://www.donkeyshow.com or http://www.donkeyshow.xxx? The .com. without question. It's easier to remember, easier to say, and easier to slip past a spam filter.
Forcing the porn sites to a .xxx domain will not happen either. Lawsuits would fly.

i think it could work.
then fake cragslist personals or myspace friend requests wouldn't be able to trick people into going to porn sites.

First websites to be registered would probably be:
x.xxx
xx.xxx
xxx.xxx
porn.xxx
Then all the crazy porn fetishes out there.
They'll probably do it eventually.
I'll register disney.xxx

Too much work. They have adequate filters at schools already. There is also the emergency failsafe schools have too. Fucking teachers! We could never look at porn long before there were content filters in school, because teachers etc, were always making rounds. A whole lot of trouble for little benefit. Also, start getting into technicalities. for example, would 4chan have to have a .xxx, because it has porn on it? It's not entirely a porn dedicated website, but it does host some adult, and generally disgusting images. I would not think it classifies as a .xxx website, but I certainly would not want children, or anyone with a glimmer of hope for humanity, to see the content on that site.

That's more or less why there won't be a triple-x domain. ICANN has stated in the past that they don't intend to regulate content on the Internet. Since .xxx websites would inevitably be blocked for many people and it is highly debatable what sites belong in .xxx (especially internationally) ICANN would effectively regulate Internet content. So the whole thing is pretty much dead at this point.

Maybe it doesn't have to be so black and white.
If legitimate adult sites were on the .xxx domain they would be easier to find. They may want to be there.

That argument has actually been used by some child safety groups against the .xxx domain. But honestly, I don't see how it would make things easier. If I want porn I'm not going to type boobies.xxx into my browser anyway. I'll use Google like I do for everything else. And a triple-x domain would make it much easier for search engines to filter out adult websites in their results. That's one of the reasons why the adult industry has lobbied vehemently againt the .xxx proposal. They fear it's a way to limit access to porn on the Internet. The only group that has a genuine interest in .xxx being adopted at the moment is ICM, because they could charge a shit load of money for it.
