Fairly underwhelming. Super Monkey Ball was the most touted release for the phone, and arguably the only game that works on the phone at all, given the system's complete lack of buttons, but even that isn't that great. To move the monkey ball, you tilt the phone. This means that you're tilting the very screen that you're trying to navigate through, which is irritating. Classic games like solitaire and breakout are slowed down considerably using the touch-based system, making them far less enjoyable.

Time recently ran this article and seems rather bullish on the iphone's potential as a gaming platform. John Carmack agrees. Marc Ecko is making an iphone only Dexter game that I'm sort of interested in, though I'm guessing it will be more like an interactive novel (ala Phoenix Wright). It'll be interesting to see what other "exclusives" they will get going forward. The lack of any buttons is severely limiting as you mentioned, but I could still see them carving a niche within the casual gamer crowd.

One of my friends had a fairly cool homebrew application that let you play NES games. Of course, the bottom third of the screen was taken up by a controller interface. It would be neat to see a legal version of that.

I've seen the NES and PSX emulator. The virtual control pad seems like it would be really awkward to use, especially on playstation with all those buttons.

Actually, you can use both hands. Unlike the DS, the touchscreen can register multiple touch inputs at once. There's a free game called Tap Tap Revenge with is basically a fake Guitar Hero, where you tap the notes as they come across the fretboard. On the harder difficulties, the notes come two and three at time.

I was watching a co worker play Castlevania on her phone, I kept telling her she was gonna get slaughtered by the flying Medusa heads due to the wonky keypad controls.

The #1 did not deserve the spot, some of those should have been higher up. Like the space laser one!

Some features the next iPhone should have:
1. The ability to use ANY uploaded mp3 as a ringtone, instead of just stuff purchased from iTunes
2. Better speakers
3. The ability to import custom sounds for text alerts, or perhaps simply the ability to use ringones for text alerts
4. The ablity to set different text alert sounds for different contacts
5. The ability to forward texts
6. The ability to send a text message to multiple users at once
7. The ability to send images via text message
8. Smiley support in SMS
Please not that 1-7 are all features that my last phone, a crappy little Motorola, all had. The iPhone is a fun gadget, but its phone features are MASSIVELY lacking. MASSIVELY.

Holy shit, I had no idea that the Iphone was struggling that hard as an actual phone, wow. |
If you not being sarcastic, you are quite oblivious. Wouldn't you know, that a phone with a hundred features is nice, but the phone itself sucks.

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.
Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.
