It's an unlicensed port by Tec Toy. It sucks, especially when you don't have shoulder buttons to strafe.
Also, Tec Toy blows ass.

Actually, the Genesis port WAS licensed. Tec Toy was the official distributor of both the Genesis and Master System in Brazil, both of which remained hugely popular throughout the 90s. I'm surprised they didn't do an SMS port of the game. There are HEAPS of terrible SMS ports that got released in Brazil, such as Mortal Kombat.

Well, of course it looks better than the NES bootlegs. There are very few bootlegs that were designed with any sort of quality in mind.
And as far as an 8-bit port of MK, yeah, I guess that's about as good as you could ever hope to get. Dunno if you noticed, but Kano was cut due to memory limitations. Reptile was cut as well. There are also only two stages, Goro's Lair and The Pit. There is no pit fatality. There IS a blood code.

Those screenshots look pretty craptacular. I don't even want to imagine how it plays on a genesis controller.

I'll tell ya, shitty. One button shoots, one kicks and the other has to be pressed in order to strafe. Plus the sound is very shitty.
