This is the thread in which you should discuss Google Plus and how awesome it is, isn't, will be, or won't be.

I do not have a GPFontaine account yet, so I can't invite you, but soon enough it will open to the public.

Additionally it is worth noting that Picasa and Blogger will be rebranded as components of Google Plus.

What do you think of it GP? Is there any reason that someone invested in Facebook would switch and/or make an account there?

I predict it'll fail just because it's not Facebook. The appeal of Facebook is that everyone's on it.

It is going to have some features that Facebook simply can't compete with.
Right now I'd say it is hurt the most by the fact that it is arriving very late to a party that it wasn't invited to. That really puts it at a disadvantage. Syd is 100% correct that everyone has Facebook and no one has Google+. Yet.

On the up side though, it integrates in with the new Google Black Toolbar... Yeah, that actually matters and was intentional. They will link Picasa with it and blogging. Unlimited cell phone photos can be uploaded instantly and automatically when you take the images. That alone will drive people to get accounts.

The privacy settings with Circles is really easy to understand and much better than Facebooks limited grouping tools.

I'd say that it is an uphill battle, but right now Google has as much of a chance as anyone ever will against Facebook. It is up to them not to fuck it up. If they don't open the floodgates soon, the early adopters will get bored of having so few friends in the system.

The potential grows though if you consider that in the future you can create Docs media and share and participate through a community of only the interested people. You don't have to bother all of your friends when you want to talk to co-workers. I guess, I am a fan and think it has potential.

I'd try it if I had access, but most of the features you just mentioned I wouldn't even use anyway lol. To upload any pictures off my cell phone I have to hunt down a microsd card first and then load them all onto the computer. I do like the idea of circles, because I've tried to do shit like that on Facebook and it can be a pain, but I'd probably not use it to share documents or anything. Most anyone that needs a document from me asks me in person and I have it on the flash drive in my backpack.

I say the opposite is true. Right now the appeal of Google+ is that not everyone can get one. Remember when Facebooks were special to have because you needed a .edu address? It diminished a little when they expanded to high schools. Now it's special if you don't have one. Now that no one can get a Google+, everyone suddenly wants one. It's very telling how some people simply cannot stand how certain other people, all other things being equal, have something they don't.

I really am looking forward to this new Google+ thing, because I'm getting fairly tired of Facebook, just like I got tired of Myspace, hopefully Google wont find a way to mess it up like most companies have been doing with their newest things -_-.

If you have a GMAIL account you should definitely sign up on the front page as "interested"
http://plus.google.com
The word was that they were opening it up to gmail account holders earlier today, though it has been going on and off.

I'm on the "I'm Interested" I think, if that's the part where you put in your First name and your e-mail.
If anyone else gets a free invite and would throw it my way It would be super cool. I really want to check it out.

Sorry for the double post, but I'm sure people won't mind this bump.
I've got some invites. PM me your G-Mail account, and I'll add until I can't anymore in the order I receive your e-mails.

I'd also like to point out that Google Plus is a horrible name for a social media site.

it kind of reminds of chrono trigger when you fought magus' henchmen for the second time and they just added a + by there name, clearly the + sign is nothing but sinister
