Joking Titled: Nerds: A Mathematical Analysis of the phenomenon.

The Nerd Bell Curve:

The Idea is to apply “Nerdy” things or topics to a bell curve. Ideally it could be an interactive graphic or feature that would provide links to the content, and well, it actually translates pretty well to a forum game people might like to mess around with. Although I am sure most people know what a Bell Curve is and what it is used for, just in case, here is a picture:

Bell Curve:

Also, it is not to meant to be offensive, so if I put something that you happen like on the low end, sorry.

Some of the things that I can think of off the top of my head:

___________________________________________
The Nerd Bell Curve

Low End:
- Fans of the Movie “Krull” or “Xanadu”
- Larpers
- Furrys
- ICP fans
- Ren Faire psychos
- Anyone that owns an account on vampirefreaks.com
-

Mid Low End:
- Table Top Gaming
- People that like Final Fantasy IV more than VI (Ok, I'mjust kidding)
- People that say “lol” and “woot” in real life conversations
- Mall Cops
-

Middle/ Average:
- People that know the meanings of “OMFG, ROFL, QQ ect.”
- Girls that work at the video game store.
-

Mid High End:
- Anyone that has a Myspace or Face book Page
- Grammer Nazi’s
-

High End:
- Einstien
-

If you would like to add to it or change one entry to a different position please do. It might be more interesting to make a rule that you have to use the previous persons chart in your reply and change the content as you see fit. I don’t know what do you guys think?

People think that I killed M3GA MAN, what makes you think you are safe.

FFIV is better than FFVI

Also, I would argue that Nerds and geeks are not the same thing. Girls who work at videogame stores aren't nerds. They are geeks.

Also anyone who likes ICP isn't a nerd, they are simply a failure.

Oh, by the way, I am GPFontaine, welcome to the forums. It is nice to meet you. I like your name.

It's "Grammar Nazis" with an "a" and without the apostrophe.

You could have said "spell it like my title".

Additions:
-Low end-people who write crossover fanfic, with those who write non-intuitive crossovers, or crossovers with childrens cartoon shows being on average nerdier than not. (example star trek/stargate would be less nerdy than star trek/heroes or star trek/pokemon.)
-People who wear T-shirts with internet memes on them.

Mid low end:
-People who have arguments about which superhero would win in a fight.
-People who read paperback fiction of starwars, videogames, or sword and sorcery -on a regular basis.
-Amateur pro-wrestlers.
-People who update or maintain wikis.
Middle/Average:
-Mainstream collecters. Star trek paraphenilia, anime stuff, or wads of whatsit are lowered.
Mid/High end:
-Anyone who has memorized a set of trivia that could be better accessed with a chart or other reference. For example, people who memorize the decimals in Pi ( 3.14 is handy, I prefer 22/7, but Pi to more than 5 or 6 places is pointless or could be done with a calculator), the atomic weights of uncommon elements, the names of all the argonaughts, or the entire lineage of Jesus.
-People who wear videogame or comic book T-shirts.
-Hobbyists (toy train operators, remote control plane or RC people)
High End:
Experts with a classical instrument.

I wish that Mechwarrior 2 mercenaries had stayed as the format for all the future Battletech computer games, and was extremely angered that FASA sold the rights to Wizkids and discontinued the Battle Fiction paperbacks, where does that put me? Confused

What about people who played instruments in high school band class?

I think that depends on the instrument. If you played the recorder, I would say low end. If it was a triangle, you were probably the guy that thought music class was Bullshit and chose the easiest instrument just to get by and get your credits, I guess that would place higher up the curve.

"Gaint Robot Enthusiast" isn't all that nerdy in my opinion, so I would say Middle Average. However, I tried to google "Battle Fiction" and it didn't come up with anything. So I would say "Obscure Science Fiction Paperback aficionado" is pretty deep on the Low Mid End, but I may be way off base.

Good stuff. I would add that people that wear animal T-shirts such as the one below are close to if not lower to "People who wear T-shirts with internet memes on them."

APLETHORAOFPINATAS and I had a conversation a couple of months ago about "wolf shirt people" and how they are the bottom rung of society.

Yeah, after doing the math. Wolf T-shirt people are pretty much at the bottom.

All band members are nerdy. Particularly trombone players. Trumpets the least, and maybe people who play the non-gay saxophones. If you play the triangle just to get out of hard work in band, but you still go to practices, you ARE STILL A NERD. Its called skipping class people.

I would put wolf t-shirts wearers with people who decorate their houses with velvet pictures, as in the dregs of society. Not necessarily nerds.

Another low ender. DeviantArt people, almost as a whole. And people who speak Klingon, Esperanto, elvish, or any other language that fails the requirement by never having a population that actually spoke it.

I played trombone, but I was badass. I skipped band because I was getting sick of playing pep band tunes all hour.

Oh yeah, what makes Tromboners so nerdy?

Heh, I never took band in school I took art instead partly because I'm a stoner and I assumed 2 things:

First of all if I was stoned, and had to hear 20 some odd other people try to play there instruments, I'd fucking kill myself before the 1st term was over.

Second of all art would be much more mellow, quiet, and if I was hi I could just stare at a wall or some trippy abstract art.

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.

Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.

I think people that own a mypace profile should be lower or at least people that change their myspace page more than once a month

I played the big sax when you had to play one and you couldn't really skip 'cause it was middle school, the teachers would no you were skipping. The Tenor Sax.

I personally place people who wright fanfics down pretty low. I havn't seen anything on here yet that I personally do, or do often at all.
