When Final Fantasy III came out on the DS and the characters all looked like little kids, I was okay with it. I had gotten about 12 minutes into the fan-translated NES ROM before I got bored with the original game and I assumed the child-like character models were faithful to the story. Then I saw FFIV, my favorite FF game of all-time, redone in the same style, and I was massively disappointed. I love those characters, and to see them re-rendered as ten year olds pisses me the fuck off in ways I never imagined. Fuck you, Square Enix, for ruining one of the greatest games ever made. I'll stick with the GBA port, thank you very much.

I just started playing it the other day and I'm liking it a lot so far. I just got finished playing the FFIII remake though so maybe I'm just use to that style of graphics, but I actually prefer it to the 16 bit look.

Why does every game have to appeal to kids? Why do they do this with Zelda too?

You're being too hard about this.
The graphics are only done in SD style because of the DSes' hardware limitations, and Squenix wanting to keep some resemblance to the classic style. At least they didn't sound like kids, and the FMVs prove my points.
That said, it was amazing.

Maybe they tried to emulate how the sprites looked in the SNES game? That's the only reason I can think of for them to do that besides to appeal to children.

Eh, I'm severely underwhelmed. Most of the hardcore RPG sites were too. The mainstream VG media enjoyed it though.

I've had Final Fantasy IV DS since Tuesday, and it's been pretty good so far. The review sites were right; the game's difficulty is a little harder. So far I had an imp/goblin bump off Rydia, my team of Cecil/Palom/Porom/Tellah got bumped off by a Lamia, and then earlier on they got bumped off by Scarmiglione's final form.

I heard the voice-overs were less than stellar.
I don't know, this game doesn't look interesting to me. Maybe because the graphics looks almost exactly like FFIII on the DS, and FFIII is extremely boring to me (it's essentially FFV but with a worse storyline).

Regardless, it looks exactly like the SNES game.

...Remember when Square took the novel and innovate step of making -new- games?
How many times has FF4 been remade in the past couple of years anyways? 3?

At least it doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary spin-offs like Final Fantasy VII.

I've gotten further along in the DS version, although I still keep getting bumped off. Cagnazzo took me out, so did the Dark Elf/Dark Dragon, Golbez, and now even Dr. Lugae's final form.

I found it was pretty tough at the beginning and had to go through a couple grind sessions early on, but haven't had many problems ever since. I just beat Rubicante on my first attempt and can't recall the last time my party was defeated. I haven't been grinding at all either, but I do go for 100% map completion in each dungeon, which I have a feeling results in your party being over leveled. Cecil is at 50 right now.

I got Cecil around level 40, and I just finished my first trip in the Tower of Babil. Dr. Lugae isn't that hard in his final form, once you figure out his "Reversal Gas".

I was going to buy this game for work tonight since I'm by myself and have 8 hours to burn, but the fucking employee at walmart just walked away and never came back. Now I'm game-less for the night. 7 hours and 40 minutes to go.

FFIV on DS has very retarded graphics but the cinematic at the beginning of the game just makes you want to play it. The cinematic is fucking awesome. I still might get this game the whole storyline of FFIV makes it a sweet game IDC about graphics.

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.
Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.
