A week ago, I phoned Nintendo's consumer service line and, using the closest thing to the proper channels I could find, suggested a new WiiWare game: Metroid Vs. StarTropics. I explained to the person on the other end the reasoning behind such a crossover, which I think is fairly obvious here. Of course, I was told not to expect anything of it, but if you ever see a certain AVP-inspired game in the WiiWare menu, you'll know who to thank.

Interesting.
Nintendo's old official line was: "Sorry, we can't use your ideas. You might sue us later."
I'm really surprised they didn't tell you that.

I used to do that all the time with games. About 18 months before Brawl came out, I tried to submit a roster to Nintendo that included people such as Simon Belmont and Mega Man. Stupid, I know...but I figured I might as well try. At least we got Sonic and Snake, which opens the door in the next game for the people I mentioned.

metroid vs star tropics? sounds interesting enough. what was your pitch? or what type of game did you have in mind? RTS, metroidvania, or just fighter?

Mega Man's name apparently appears in the Brawl code, suggesting that rumors he was going to be in the game are true.

This I didn't mention on the phone, but the premise I envision is that many years after the events of Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II, Mike Jones returns to the Coral Sea archipelago to clear out tunnels old and new alike that now house a new host of monsters...including Metroids. But if Nintendo does make the game, I'm sure they won't be far off the mark.

Ninty would make a StarTropics remake or a sequel in itself before they would do a crossover, methinks.

I don't think you quite understand. There hasn't been a StarTropics III because there hasn't been a Predator 3.

Update: One of the new games to hit WiiWare today is Excitebike World Rally. Excitebike, like StarTropics, is one of Nintendo's lower-tier franchises. Given this fact and WiiWare's predominately awful library with so few gems to its name, I think Nintendo will find it wouldn't hurt them to make MVS.
