How does one look at the same thing over and over again and never recognize that it existed?

The sports section is like dirty laundry for me. I just leave it on the ground and walk over it. My wife gets pissed and asks how I didn't think to put it away, but the truth is that I just didn't think about it.

Back to the point. There is a sports section. And sports can be fun!

I used to play a lot of them.

My favorite sports to play are hockey, skiing, tennis, and golf.

My favorite sport to watch is hockey.

My least favorite sport to play is basketball.

My least favorite sport to watch is soccer.

Back in 1989 the Detroit Redwings came in dead last in their division. I had slowly started to grown an interest in hockey and most of my ancestors are of Russian decent. Granted they were Jewish and therefore hunted down and attacked in pogroms, but Russian none the less.

So it was a really big deal when Sergei Fedorov joined the league in 1990. I thought he was an awesome player, he was Russian, and at the time his skating reminded me of Gretzky (granted he never became as good, but his feet moved the same, even faster, back then).

So I became a Redwings fan and ate shit for a few years for it. Well... I have liked the Wings since and what a ride it has been for the last decade and a half. They broke their curse and have been one of the best teams in the league, likely to go down in history as a dynasty.

Unfortunately my interest in the team dwindled when Fedorov left. Sadly, I think he became a showboat and the team had no need for a playboy on their team. Plus he got old.

I wonder what he would have done if hockey didn't have two strikes during his prime.
