As far as the age thing Karolyi has it correct that it gives quite and advantage. If you want to not look at the physical advantages of it, and look more at the performing infront of everyone, they are trained from age 3, they showed it on NBC, to do this, and more so, prepared for it in front of crowds and large groups way more then I think we prepare our own for that. In China in many ways for this Olympics, it was done like the East Germany or Russia of yesteryear, where the kids live and breathe only their sport, and do not live at home or with their parents at all. These kids are far more ready for the crowds then even People 2 and 3 times there age, having it drilled into them day in and day out since 3 years old.

That has nothing to do with age though, that has to do with training. I think a 13 year old might be naturally more terrified of a large crowd then a 16 or 17 year old, but once you factor in training, it changes things up.

Holy shit, go China with 26 Gold medals. The U.S. trails with 14 golds but leads in total medals (46). Germany's up there too but the damn medal count website is a bitch so i cant get anymore.

Oh yeah. I see your point.

Just kidding. Care to elaborate?

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

No. But I will anyways.

He's a Romanian who trained Nadia Cominichi (spelling probably wrong), the gymnast who was the first to score perfect 10s in 1976. He later defected and trained up Mary Lou Retton for the 1984 games as well. Since then, nearly every elite gymnastics coach follows his philosophy.

Said philosophy includes training young girls 12 hours a day, encouraging them to drop school to train, inducing them into bulimia, encouraging them to keep their bodies starved that puberty is delayed, if they reach it at all (because once you have breasts, you're less aerodynamic and not as good, so he's gonna drop you for someone else. It was well known that your first period was the end of the road in Karolyi's class), forcing them to train instead of healing sprains and broken bones, and...well, it all comes down to treating little girls like shit in order to mold them into champions at the cost of their bodies. And now everyone emulates him.

In short, he's the reason why nobody could tell the 13 year old among the 16-18 year olds out there...because of his training philosophies, -everyone- out there looked like a 13 year old.

Two questions, no sarcasm included.

1) How does that make him different than any other gymnastics coach (as every gymnast I've seen from every country looks roughly the same- save the 8-year olds performing for China this year; no "16 year-old" should weigh 70lbs.)?

2) Does that make him any less correct?

I'm by no means a Bela Karolyi defender. But he's been around gymnastics for a long-ass time, so dude knows what he's talking about- I'd put stock in his opinion on the matter.

He is the one that started that trend

Depends on what he is talking about. I still don't think he is about right younger athletes putting pressure on themselves, but his opinion is probably more important then mine.

Fuck the Olympics, I'm sick of them never giving me any gold medals and acting like they are so much better than me. Every four years it's the same shit, they never even call me to see if I feel like competing. So what if I've never trained in any of the events, how would they know if I was any good or not if they never invite me? Fuck them and their elitist bullshit. They don't even call just to see how I'm doing. It's not like I'm picky about which event I play in either, I'll even take archery, how hard could it be? Just point the damn arrow and shoot the target, it's not hard at all! A lot of these people competed in the last Olympics too, it's not fair, they need to give other people a chance. The Winter Olympics likes to pull the same shit too and don't even get me started on the Special Olympics. You watch, in 2012, the Olympics are going to call me up and beg me to be in it and I'm just going to straight up tell them to take a hike. They think they're hot shit now but in four years it'll be old and loose and nobody will want to hit that shit anymore. The Olympics probably have some kind of disease after how many people have been in it. I wouldn't even fuck the Olympics with M3GA MAN's dick.

If your goal is to develop an Olympic champion...yeah, he's the best. And that's how he defends his methods. They produce winners. If a girl's life and body is shattered along the way, a small price to pay for gold.

Don't get me wrong, if we were talking about adult athletes, I wouldn't care. But these are children.

Olympic Boxing is boring as hell, and I don't know what counts as a hit.

Olympic boxing is boring as shit, I agree. I think the white part of the glove has to make flush contact with the head, stomach, or sides. At least that's what I can tell. It's WAY harder to get what counts as a hit in the Olympics compared to good ol' HBO boxing.

Yeah, so I take back what I said about Sacramone. I was pissed; I'm sure she's a nice enough girl and she's been gracious enough to take blame. I just hope she doesn't end up beating herself up about it. US still won silver and she's still a bright kid. I mean, she's going to Brown. I'm sure she'll be ok.

Am I writing this because she's hot and from 2 towns over and I could conceivably meet her/hit it someday? You better goddamn believe it.

Yeah, I was in same position a few years ago. Too bad the Olympic athlete was Tonya Harding, who lived in the same town I did. Confused

Damn, I didn't read all the judging shit, but the Olympic committee or the judges really need to loosen up if it's that bad. I haven't seen much of the boxing. I saw a little on youtube but thats about it. Stupid NBC.com doesn't support my OS/browser combo for their videos.

From what I saw, the judges gave points based solely on which boxer they liked at the time.
