GamesIndustry.biz caught up with Traveller's Tales' Rich Earl at last week's Leipzig Games Convention, where the Lego Batman producer revealed that work on a 20-minute Lego Batman cartoon was underway. No, that's not a typo; Warner Bros. is adapting a kids' television show from a videogame, which itself is based on a line of comic book-inspired toys. Try not to think about it too much, because -- much like Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game -- this hall of mirrors threatens to distort your very soul.
All kidding aside, a pilot episode of Lego Batman is currently under production, with hopes that a full animated series will soon receive the green light. Earl notes that while Traveller's Tales is providing the studio with assets from the game, they're otherwise uninvolved with the project:
"My understanding is that they will use the engine, the Maya files where the characters come to life, but they'll be creating animated... I think it's a 20-minute cartoon. I'm personally quite intrigued to see how it comes out. Lego, every time they've had a new brand out, they've done some CGI stuff as well, but I think this will be quite different."
No further details about the show are available. The Lego Batman videogame, however, should be hitting just about every platform conceivable on September 23. That should supply you with enough grit-free, family-friendly Batman until this animated series business gets sorted out. |

While I doubt it will be picked up, the honest truth is Batman needs a new show. "The Batman" just ended so the gap is open.

Wow, it's amazing how fast time flies, it seems like only yesterday the new batman series aired. At least Black Mask finally made an appearances outside the comics.

"The Batman" got pretty good starting with its third season, but with its fifth season emphasizing on the Justice League, I understand why it didn't continue. The world just opens up too much. Same thing happened in the Timm-verse.
