Alright, the last system I bought was a GameCube and I don't have many games for it. I'm sure I have Mario Kart, because hey, it's Mario :p
I'm a big fan of online play too, I love playing Counter Strike and other First Person Shooters, however I haven't got my online play to console games yet. I'd LOVE to play games like Soul Caliber, Mario Kart, and whatever other game is online playable.
I don't make much money and since I have few people that play games around me anymore, due to jobs and stuff, it's hard to find people to play with. I'm not gonna let being one of the older gamers who grew up on the NES stop me :p I just need to catch up with the times, except MGS4, I don't want to wait 3 hours to play.
I'm sure I'm not the only one at this forum whose most advanced system they play on is the PS2

Well, the first gaming system I ever got was a commodore 64, good ol' tape casettes! Then I got an atari. Then I got every Nintendo console up to gamecube. Then I got a xbox. I never got a playstation.
Yeah, so by the time I was in highschool, I only had my N64, gamecube, GBA and xbox left. Then I sold my N64 and xbox very cheaply and gave away my gamecube and the games. My GBA broke. I played games to much and I needed to focus on highschool. So today, I dont own any console what so ever, but any game before and including xbox and gamecube I have probably played. But I still play every now and then on the computer. My highschool friends still host XBOX LAN parties which I attend rarely.
Anyway, I think Im a stone age gamer because I havent played any of this new shit and I like the older shit.

I started off with the Atari and quickly moved to NES.
I begged my parents for a Genesis, but found that the best RPGs at the time were for SNES. So I saved up and got one of those.
And then I wasted years playing games on those two systems.
Playstation came out and I couldn't even consider it. The idea of loading time was such a fucking joke to me. To hell with that. The N64 was released and while LOZ looked great and so did Mario, I was much more interested in the PC.
A computer had so much more to offer, and if you really focused on it, there was so much to do. (I was hooked on a MUD).
So the next gaming console I bought was a GameCube. And the only reason I bought it was because I needed something to ease me off of WoW (the first time). If only there had been more games for it, I might not have fallen back into WoW.
But I did, and thank god I have finally gotten away from it.
I bought a Wii, because I can afford it and I really like the major releases
LOZ, Mario, Metroid
But I still find myself as a PC gamer. I have been playing Oblivion, Far Cry, and a few other games. They are older, but so is my rig at this point.
So as it stands right now, I pretty much am bored with console games. The Wii has the slowest fucking game release pattern that I have ever seen. The PS3 doesn't have a single game I am interested in, and the XboX doesn't have a blueray player yet.
Once XboX gets that squared away I'll probably get one because it can act as a media console.

Yeah, just have the PS2. I inherited a GameCube a couple of months ago, but I haven't played much of it between then and now. I previously owned REmake, RE:0, Rogue Squadron II and III, Die Hard Vendetta, and Darkened Skye for it though.
I'll get a PS3 at some point just because I'm so addicted to some franchises like RE, Silent Hill, GTA, and MGS. Since I'm playing those for plot, I don't mind watching. In the case of MGS4 that's all I've been able to do!

I got sick of PC gaming. Too much stuff comes out to keep track of, a lot of it is terrible, and if you bought your computer more than 6 months ago, you won't be able to play anything that came out yesterday.
With the consoles, just enough games come out and your know your system will be able to run them. And you also have like 20+ major websites and magazines reviewing each and every game, so you can get a pretty accurate assessment of whether it's good or not before you buy it.

you are right about the "dated" systems.
But there is no way to keep up with the number of games released. So on a positive note, you can just play games that came out a year ago, and have plenty to play.
Also there are just as many reviews of PC games out there, you just need to find them.

And if you can't find a review of game, that's probably a pretty good indication it's not good.

I've owned the NES, SNES, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, XBOX, 360 and Wii in that order. I'll probably get a PS3 eventually once the library improves and price (hopefully) drops lower.
I actually started gaming on the PC before I ever had a console, and up until like 8 years ago I was more of a PC gamer, but then it started to seem like you had to upgrade more and more often to play the latest and greatest games, which got annoying. Whenever I buy a new PC, I usually get back into gaming for as long as I can play the newest stuff. Consoles are just less of a hassle for me.

I've won the Caveman Ugh'Lympics, does that count as a stone age gamer?
Also, I have to be the Pro to Syd's Con. PC gaming technology is kind of at a plateau right now. I mean if you bought a video card a year to two ago, you could still play 99% of what's out there with out any issues. And, now is a great time to back into PC gaming. I can build a good gaming PC for the same price of a PS3.
Which would you rather have? (For $450?)
40 GB PS3
Cell Processor
Plays PS3 and PS1 games.
40 GB 5200RPM Hard Drive
DVD/BluRay Compatible
Browse the net slowly. (I know)
Will NOT play PS4 games.
PC Gaming System
2.6GHzz Dual Core 64-Bit
Plays PC Games and any consoles' made before 2000.
640 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
DVD compatible. (BluRay for an extra $75)
Browse at the speed of your connection.
Will play games that come out in 5 years. (Some upgrades may be nessicary.)
Oh yeah, and do about 6 million other things with it.

I started with a Windows 95 PC. Mechwarrior 2 Mercs was the first game I owned (it came as a pack in). Beyond that, it was just "educational" games for a few years, until I got my N64. Then, after the obsolescence of the N64 and much whining, my parents finally let me get a PS2. The first (classic "fat" one) lasted for about 3 years, and then succumbed to a busted disk drive. Now I have a silver PS2 slim. I grabbed a Wii using cash I had from watching my brother and sister last year, and used my first 2 paychecks on an Xbox 360. I also got my friend's old PC for $150. Not bad for a 2Ghz proc and 2 gigs of RDRAM (horrible latency, but the shit sells for a lot). I threw in a new graphics card, which allows me to play most games as long as I turn down the settings. The newest PC game I have is Command and Conquer 3. But, since the motherboard is old as hell and the proc is a Pentium 4 Willamette, my plans are to build a new system by the end of the summer.

I started with the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis. Then I became a fanboy and followed with the N64, Gamecube, and Wii. Finally, I stopped being a fanboy and got a PS2 and a 360.

Started with Atari 2600, some Kangaroo game with boxing gloves. Moved up to the NES and have owned just about ever mainstream console except the Genesis and its add-on's. Just sold my 360 to a buddy, and got a PS3 and Wii. Wii is my #3, SNES #2, NES #1.

I had an NES, which quickly died. Then my dad bought me a Genesis (and bought my sis an SNES). He bought himself a PlayStation with Ridge Racer and Tekken around the time it came out, but I was playing it so much, he just gave it to me. After my parents moved away from each other (around the time I was 7), I got a Sega Saturn with this football game (name escapes me) and Sonic Jam. That broke down before Christmas that year. so my mom surprised me with an N64, and I can only remember 2 games I got with it: Bomberman 64 and NBA Courtside. I had that for the longest. I got my first PC around Christmas '98, and the first game I bought for that was Half-Life. Around the time I was 10 ('00 probably) I got a Dreamcast as a birthday present. That got so much play, until my sister dropped it once coming out of Funcoland, and stopped working. So we went back to the N64 until when the day I turned 12 ('02) when my mom finally buckled down and bought me an Xbox. I didn't have much games for it, but yeah. Unfortunately, if I want one of these newer consoles, I'm gonna have to get out and get a job.
Yeah, I'm not for PC gaming much. Almost nothing out there interests me. Only shit coming out today is FPSes, more FPSes, some shitty strategy games (Note: C&C and Civ3+4 is always cool), and WoW imitators. I'm only still here for games like Spore.

Oh jeez let's see...
Started with an Atari (but I barely remember it at all, I know we had one though). Then my dad got the NES, which I remember playing, then the SNES, which is the majority of my childhood. 8D Dad got the PS when it came out, and he gave me a PS2 for Christmas the year my parents divorced. He left the NES and SNES here, as well as the PS, so I stll have them all (and yes, they all still work).
I don't see myself buying a PS3 or a Wii or a 360 anytime soon... simply because 1) I can't afford it and 2) I'm still playing games from the PS2 that I really want to finish. Call me silly, but I don't really go out and buy new games until I finish the ones I already have... 8D What a concept, I know.
I still break out the SNES for tons of games, though. Earthbound is the shit.

I forgot to mention this, but I did have an Atari 2600. It got sold at a garage sale when I was like 7 I still miss it. I'm still well attached to my old systems, but I REALLY want that online playability.
...I still buy NES games since I want to play the real thing more often than the emulator.

I too had a 2600 that was passed down to me from my uncle, but by that point I had been playing NES for years. He did have a TON of games so there was this initial wow factor for me as I went trying them all out, but I quickly realized most of them sucked, and after about 2 weeks I went back to strictly playing NES again. Frogger, Pitfall and some others were cool though...

You seemed to have missed the slang there, man. When something's "the shit" it means it's awesome. Had she said "Earthbound is shit." then she implies it's terrible.
And yes, Earthbound rocks my socks. Only RPG I ever beat to this day.

I usually wait until the second price drop for any given system, unless a Mario or other un-wait-for-able title is released. Does that make me a wood-age gamer?
