Amen to Nick @ Nite. That's where I learned to respect my elders.

Is Get Smart on DVD yet?
And Dennis the Menace ran on regular Nickelodeon, not Nick @ Nite. So did Lassie.

Actually, it was on both Nickelodeon and Nick @ Nite. It was also on TV Land for a little while. Still no fucking DVD. I also share a birthday with Jay North...well separated by 29 years. You know what I mean. Same day, same month.

Sorta. Time Life Video released the entire series a couple of years ago, but it was only available through them -- not in stores. But now they're releasing them a season at a time in retail stores, Amazon, etc.

I'm kinda worried about the movie. Steve Carrell seemed like the perfect choice for Maxwell Smart, but the recent trailers look fairly disappointing. It looks more like Steve Carrell: Secret Agent than Get Smart. There's like five shots with Steve Carrell screaming. I don't remember being Maxwell Smart being a panicky little bitch. Largely inept, yes, but he was cool under pressure.

I've actually heard pretty good things about it, but I share your hesitance. Another thing that gets me is the Johnny-English-retread premise, with Smart being a desk jockey who gets unexpectedly promoted to secret agent. In other words, giving him an excuse for being inept. In the series, he just was a secret agent. Explanation over. That was part of the beauty of it.

Yeah, Hollywood is stupid.
They almost always give us either way too much exposition or way not enough.

I loved the series, and will probably will love the movie, if not for the simple fact that it gives me 2 hours to drool over Anne Hathaway. (Who is also now single again! Which means that my odds of nailing her have gone from 1:4,000,000,000 to 1:3,000,000,000!)

Nope, just dating some Itallian Real Estate developer who is now in trouble for writing bad checks worth something like $300,000. So, she was wise to dump him when she did.

I saw the movie last night and am interested in purchasing the original series. I haven't seen the original series, so I went into the movie as a newbie, but it was very enjoyable. Carrell has some unexpectedly badass moments, and the movie as a whole was very entertaining.

So did you force yourself to sit through Havoc, or did you just fast forward to the good parts?

This should probably go in the Movie section, but we already have a thread here, so anyway:
Saw the movie last night, and it was really good. It's not the TV show, but they made some pretty good homages to it. Carell and Hathaway play off each other pretty well. Carell plays Smart pretty good, he is acually really intelligent, but just too inexpirenced to do things right. The cheif was perfect, and the villians are great versions of the original KAOS.
Overall I would get it a B+. Not the greatest comedy/action movie, but I will definately buy it on DVD when it comes out.
