It's likely a combination of some of the stuff from that year: Music, movies, TV, fads, fashions, etc. And every time you hear about it to this day, the year just feels like a joke to you.
I see such a year in 2002. You guys?

The 2000's. We went from all the awesome fads of the 90's to just MTV, grillz, terrorism scares, and rap.

MTV went from awesome in the '90s (with Sifl and Olly, Beavis and Butt-head, the Jim Breuer show, Singled Out, and - get this - MUSIC VIDEOS) to brutally unwatchable now. Every time I glance at MTV's show listings, I weep for the future.
