This is similar to a topic LaminatedSky posted earlier, except in poll form.

The Japanese Tingle games, Link's Crossbow Training, and those meme-spawning CDI games are not included in the list.

Legend of Zelda: This is the one that started it all. Walls to bomb, bushes to burn, GAMBLING, a second quest that entitled more than making enemies stronger, this is my 2nd favorite in the series. The only things I didn't like was not being able to move diagonally, and the Book of Magic/Bible which completely ruined the Magical Rod.

Adventure of Link: This is the most underrated game ever imho. This game had many unique features at the time, such as blending a side-scroller and an RPG together, and a combat system which I throughly enjoyed. Only problem I had was with aggravatingly hard enemies. I can't remember a time when I was more angry with dying while battling an axe-wielding crocodile.

A Link to the Past: This is my favorite game in the series. Took everything great about the original and made it better. 2 worlds, many items to collect (Hookshot ftw), diagonal control, and a memorable soundtrack. I tried to find something that I hate about this game, but I could not.

Link's Awakening: This is the first game that I have played in the series. It's like a condensed version of A Link to the Past. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just which that there weren't so many Nintendo cameos. I mean seriously, you have a Chain Chomp, Goombas, Wart, Shit, even Kirby has a small appearance in the Eagle's Tower.

Ocarina of Time: Never played any of the Nintendo 64 games.

Majora's Mask: See above.

Oracle of Seasons: The Oracle games have always been my favorite handheld Zelda games. The idea of playing through one game, then using the passwords to play the other, excited me. This game has a rather large nostalga factor, which is okay. All of the bosses from the original game appear and some rooms have been inspired by the original game's dungeons. Combine that with lush graphics and stat-enhancing rings, and you have a solid game. The final boss's final form is almost impossible to beat without the aid of the Red Ring though. They messed up the Roc's Cape controls in the side-scrolling sections and that is conveniently the perspective in which you fight him.

Oracle of Ages: This game seems to focus more on puzzles than on action. Using the parallel worlds concept from A Link to the Past for the concept of time travel was executed well here. Compared to Seasons, this game got the shaft in terms of the soundtrack. Also, the Maku Tree was annoying.

Wind Waker: Never played it. Never want to.

Four Swords Adventures: See above.

The Minish Cap: This is a good game, with a great soundtrack and many items to collect, maybe a little too much to collect. Being a completionist, I found it aggravating hard to collect the figurines. Seashells are extremely scarce and you practically need 100 rupees in order to get 1 figurine you don't have later in the game. Also, this game seems to be lacking in length.

Twilight Princess: This game is my 3rd favorite in series. Many action sequences, a great soundtrack and graphics, giving us two Hook/Clawshots, and an excellent enemy gauntlet that seems inspired by the Pit of 100 Trials from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. The only problems I had with this game are the somewhat faulty Wiimote controls at times and that hellishly annoying part where you protect the horse-drawn cart as it goes to Kakariko Village.

Phantom Hourglass: All I have to say is this: STYLUS CONTROL SUCKS.

Too hard to choose.

Link to the past, Ocarina, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess are too hard to choose between. It's been a while since I played Link to the past, so I might start a playthrough tomorrow.

AHHH! Too hard to choose. I love all of them (at least the ones I played) all too much to play faves.

I don't "get" Zelda 1 and 2 'cause of the "where the fuck do I go!?" factor.

I beat Link to the Past, like 5 times. It jizzes quality. Some days, I just normally wander around the worlds searching for more obscure secrets and shit like that.

For my 9th birthday ('99), I got a GBC, Link's Awakening DX, and others. I fell in love with it.. I mean, I played that shit every fucking day that summer.

I got OoT the christmas it came out. It was fucking epic, of course.

Majora's Mask is... alright.

Sadly, I never got to play far into Oracle of Ages/Seasons, but I'm sure it was every bit as awesome as Link's Awakening. Minish Cap, too.

I had the GBA cart of LttP/Four Swords. Never got to play Four Swords... I knew noone else that had it.

I was halfway done with Phantom Hourglass when I got my DS stolen, but it was awesome.

When I finally get a Wii, I'll try the ones I never played, Wind Waker and TP. Also note: the Tingle game got released in Europe (in English as Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland) if anyone wants to try that out.

the oracle games were awesome. especially after you beat one. it just felt like one long ass game. they were great.

my only gripe is that once the SNES zelda came out, the challenge went out the window. i still have a tough time w/zelda I + II. the lack of map is irrelevant to me. just that its hard for me to live vs the other games. the only game in the new vein that gave me a challenge was, in all honesty, wind waker.

the enemies didnt stand around. ganon was not a pushover. the big ass dark knights actually gave a challenge and were FUN to fight. i have not played phantom hourglass yet, even though i got the game, but i cant wait to play it.

  • The Legend of Zelda - Great concept, well executed. The only thing it lacked was a method of driving the player's direction forwards. Still, at the time it was amazing. Now it is a bit tedious.
  • The Adventure of Link - For some people it was great, I was not one of those people. I just never felt like it was a Zelda game. I enjoyed playing it, and I don't think it was dated as harshly as the first one, but it was never as good as the first one to begin with.
  • A Link to the Past - This game is amazing. Everything about it is amazing. My only complaint is that with a game this good, new stuff just never measures up.
  • Link's Awakening - Never played
  • Ocarina of Time - Great game. Totally overrated though. The N64 graphics held it back badly. I would love to see this game remade with today's technology and controllers.
  • Majora's Mask - I own it, I have never played it. I just can't seem to care.
  • Oracle of Seasons - Never Played
  • Oracle of Ages - Never Played
  • The Wind Waker - Amazing game. This is the most underrated Zelda title. I think it is because Link was a kid through it. The Cell Shading was done well, the puzzles were fun, the game flow was pretty good. The boat was annoying though. I do like land better than water. Still... the game was terrific.
  • Four Swords Adventures - Never Played
  • The Minish Cap - Never Played
  • Twilight Princess - This game was a ton of fun. I hated being a wolf though. Also I am not sure I liked the Scifi type bad guy. Still, as a Zelda game goes, the puzzles were done well, the graphics were good, the play control was great with the Wii. I enjoyed it tremendously.
  • Phantom Hourglass - Never Played

I hate the fact that so many Zelda games have been made for portable systems and not ported to their console brethren.

What the fuck.

Overrated or not, I'm still going with Ocarina. It may be easy to look back now and find its faults, but back in 1998 it was truly a breathtaking game and ahead of its time. While I like Twilight Princess, it's more of an evolutionary step than a revolutionary one. At times I feel like I'm just playing a remake of Ocarina with prettier graphics. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

OMG! I haven't played a Zelda game since Wind Waker... and even that I never finished. Crying

Since I only had friends' Super NES to play on growing up, I missed out on LttP. So OoT wins.

It is worth your time to play Link to the Past now. The game's graphics don't even look that dated because it is that good of a game.

Up until recently, the last one I had played was Ocarina. I've got some catching up to do, but now that I have a DS (and technically a GBA) and a wii (and technically a gamecube), I have the means to play everything I've missed.

I started playing a ROM of it like twenty times in my life. It was one of the first games I ever downloaded too, but I've never had the patience to sit at the computer and beat it. Then when I returned to it after awhile I'd start over. It's a terrible cycle! Confused

What's a dungeon? This is Zelda...

Link traverses intricate labyrinths.

I picked OoT for the poll because i'm a sucker for nostalgia.

some brief comments:
The Legend of Zelda - Classic, challenging, simplistic fun.
The Adventure of Link - Different, more challenging and frustrating that the previous, but still pretty good.
A Link to the Past - Without a doubt the best 2d Zelda game.
Link's Awakening - Very good.
Ocarina of Time - So overrated it's underrated.
Majora's Mask - Superb.
Oracle of Seasons - Didn't play.
Oracle of Ages - Didn't play.
The Wind Waker - Excellent, perhaps easy.
Four Swords Adventures - Didn't play.
The Minish Cap - Didn't play.
Twilight Princess - Phenomenal, but formulaic.
Phantom Hourglass - Pretty fun, not overly special.

Since we are supposed to vote for the best Zelda game, I'll have to vote for A Link to the Past. My favorite Zelda game remains Link's Awakening though. I played it before A Link to the Past so I was already familiar with some of the innovations A Link to the Past brought. It's also the Zelda game that I played the most. Probably because you could take it everywhere with you. And that I did.

My top 3 favorites:

1. Ocarina of Time(voted)
2. A Link to the Past
3. Wind Waker

My list would be longer, but I've only played about half of the list. These are the only ones I've beaten, too.

I've played everything up to and including Four Swords. They'll excellent, but my favorites are OoT and Majoras Mask, especially Majoras Mask, I love the ground-hog day aspect of doing things before the moon crashes into the land of termina. I love the feel of Majoras Mask more than OoT because it feels somewhat darker or something, I think its a lot more serious and mature then OoT.

Majora's mask should have had a four player mode, were you can choose between Link, the Deku, the Goron, and the Zora. It would have to be like a 'FPS,' by which I mean you find weapons and try to kill each other.

Does anyone agree with me?

It is a complete toss-up between Link to the Past and OoT for me. Both 10s if you ask me. Both make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Ocarina of Time... overrated? Shocked

Sounds like metroid prime: hunters to me. Maybe such things couldnt fit on the cartridge without lowering the quality of the main game. Anyway, sounds fun, but I prefer it not being multiplayer, that is, majoras mask not being multiplayer.
